31 AUG:   As NAZI Svoboda party members protested, the Ukraine parliament approved first reading of a law to grant limited autonomy to eastern separatists areas but does not include major parts of the region.  The bill which does not meet Ukraine’s ceasefire promises must still pass a second and third reading and be signed by the president. 

The bill only authorizes a possible Special Status and the actual Special Status must still be defined by another law which the president is against.  See the 30 Aug post. 

Organizers put the number of demonstrators at 120,000 as people took to the streets in front of Japan’s parliament where a controversial bill to allow Japanese military to be deployed outside of japan is being debated in the Upper House. Abe’s efforts have been backed by the United States, ironically the same nation that imposed the restrictions on Japan after WW2 in the first place, with officials hoping that, like Britain, Japan could become a sidekick nation in America’s various military adventures. 

Egypt will hold its long-awaited parliamentary elections in two stages in October and November, the country’s electoral committee announced on Sunday.

Ayman Abbas, head of Egypt’s Supreme Election Committee, said 14 administrative regions will vote on Oct. 17 and 18, while the 13 remaining regions, including Cairo, will vote on Nov. 21 and 22, the BBC reports. The first phase of the elections had previously been scheduled for March.

 

 

30 AUG:   Massive natural gas find in Egypt.  Italian energy group Eni announced on Sunday it had discovered potentially one of the world’s largest natural-gas fields off the Egyptian coast, predicting that the find could help meet Egypt’s gas needs for decades to come.
“According to the well and geophysical data available, the field could hold a potential of 30 trillion cubic feet of lean gas in place,” Eni said in a statement.  The Zohr discovery well was located at a depth of 1,450 metres (4,757 feet).

A quantity of the Turkish air force has been fully integrated into the anti Islamic State military force.  From Friday evening coalition attacks inside Syria included Turkish planes.  This is not the start of an offensive but the testing out of the integration in practical terms.

In July, lawmakers in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada passed amendments granting special status to the country’s war-torn eastern regions.  Now Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko has announced that there would be more changes made to the country’s constitution, which would exclude “special status” norms for separate Ukrainian areas, including those in the Don Basin region. “We will remove Article 92 of the Constitution which provides for ‘special status.’ 

Other Ukrainian regions have expressed the intention “to use this new norm,”  to demand Special Status as well, thereby balkanizing the country. 

The step back from Special Status for the Russian speaking areas of Ukraine  is highly problematic for peace in East Ukraine 

 

28 AUG:   The Islamic State has taken over the area of Syria proclaimed a Safe Zone by Turkey and the US led anti IS coalition.  The Al Nusrah Front had evacuated the area at the request of the allies, and as they left, the Islamic State moved in.  This sets up the IS for a soon coming massive aerial bombardment of the Safe Haven.  

Large concentrated IS forces drawn into the small declared border zone to protect IS access to Turkey are now facing annihilation in a devastating air campaign to be followed by an allied offensive into the zone. 

This coalition offensive could come soon, however the situation is complicated by the Nov 1 Turkish elections and  the Turkey Kurdish situation.  The coalition offensive into Syria, when it does come; is expected to be coordinated with the long expected Iraqi assault in Anbar province.

27 AUG:   Israel bombs Hamas site in Gaza after one rocket explodes near border fence. 

Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led coalition airstrikes drove Islamic State militants out of 10 villages in Iraq’s Kirkuk province on Wednesday 

Coming out of the Iran nuclear deal the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed a deal with Kazakhstan according to which the agency will establish an enriched uranium bank for nuclear power on Kazakhstani soil. The facility, which will be ready in 2017, will provide IAEA member states with steady and fixed amounts of fuel controlled by the IAEA. 

Iran never had a nuclear weapons program and was not able to enrich uranium more than 6%, far less than the 93% or more needed for nuclear weapons.  The whole anti Iran nuclear effort was for the purpose of placing all nuclear fuel production under an international control as per the Establishment agenda for world government.

 

26 AUG:  CAIRO – The Arab League has postponed a meeting of defense ministers to ratify a protocol for a new joint military force to intervene in regional hot spots. The Cairo-based organization anno0unced in a Wednesday press statement that members requested the meeting be postponed included Saudi Arabia,  Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq. The Arab League said members will decide later on a new date for the meeting, which was originally scheduled for Thursday.  The object of the alliance is mainly to deal with the situation in Libya and Yemen,  Some members support different Libyan militias and that issue needs to be worked out.

 

25 AUG:  Turkey and the United States will soon launch “comprehensive” air operations to flush Islamic State fighters from a zone in northern Syria bordering Turkey,  Detailed talks between Washington and Ankara on the plans were completed on Sunday and regional allies including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan as well as Britain and France. 

Monday  China’s stock market plunged with the Shanghai composite index dropping 8,5% in the biggest selloff since 2007.  Today the China markets lost another 7%.

China dropped its interest rate by 1/4 % today ans is expected to inflate its currency

The worldwide effect of the China stock market situation is a warning of what will come if war breaks out causing the Persian Gulf shipping lanes to close.

23 AUG:   After South Korea shelled the North last week high level talks began on Sabbath over the shelling and propaganda broadcasts by the South.  Following the South’s attacks about  70 percent of the North’s 77 submarines had left their bases and were undetectable by the South Korean military as of Saturday. The official also says the North had doubled the strength of its front-line artillery forces since the start of the high-level talks early Saturday evening. It is to be remembered that despite all the Western propaganda the Korean war began with the South shelling the North and the North responding. 

Hezbollah goes on high alert on the Israeli northern border. 

The Israeli stock exchange dropped nearly 4% on Sunday.

Mahmoud Abbas resigned Saturday as head of the Palestinian Liberation Organization’s executive committee in a bid to force new elections for a new body at the Palestinian National Council meeting next month. More than half of the 18 committee members stepped down with him. Abbas retains the titles of Palestinian president and chairman of the Palestinian Authority.

 

21 AUG:   Three unarmed American Marines traveling across France by train reacted to a gunman firing on them and fellow passengers and were able to restrain the man saving many lives.

Israel launches air strike in Syria killing five Islamic Jihad men claimed to be behind yesterday’s rocket fire.   Israelis is also claiming they took their orders from Iran.

America ups anti Russian propaganda now viewing Russia as an existential threat to the US.

Greek news outlets report that a faction in the Syriza, the country’s main party, are expected to split and make a new party. It is believed that up to 25 MPs could make the move. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, Syriza head, stepped down yesterday (Thursday) and called for new elections. He blamed the loss of support from his party’s MPs after the national vote on a new bailout.

 

20 AUG:   16:00 EDT:     Islamic Jihad is vehemently denying it fired any rockets, while Israel is using the situation to pound the Syrian army which is resisting the Western trained insurgent attacks on the elected government on and near the Golan. 

This appears to be a put up job by the Western backed rebels to give Israel an excuse to back them up by attacking Syria.  In refrence to todays retaliatory strikes the IDF officer said, “We attacked several kilometers into Syria, 5 or 6 sites with multiple targets within each site.

Sirens in the south were false alarms.

13:30 EDT:   Rocket alerts are now sounding in the south near Gaza.

13:24 EDT: Israel responded immediately with artillery fire into Syria and  Israeli air strikes have begun in Syria.

Thirty minutes after the Golan alert four rockets fired from Syria struck the Israeli Golan. Two rockets exploded in the Galilee “Panhandle,” the Huleh Valley and two on the Golan. They started fires in kibbutz fields and orchards. A red alert sent people living in the area into shelters.  This was a deliberately aimed salvo from the Iran backed Islamic Jihad over the hunger striking Israeli prisoner, and not stray shots from Syrian fighting.

BREAKING 13:00 EDT:  Israelis living on the western slopes of the Golan have just been told to seek shelter from an unspecified danger from across the northern borders. The warning alert was circulated to Gonen, Kfar Szold, Lahavot Habashan, Neot Mordecai and the Huleh Valley. 

The Palestinian hunger striker being held without charge, Mohammed Allaan, has severe brain damage and has slipped back into a coma. 

Two Iron Dome batteries were posted Thursday opposite Gaza one each in Ashdod and Beersheba after repeated Jihad Islami rocket threats to strike if the hunger striker dies.

Greek Prime Minister Tsipras says he is resigning and calling early elections . 

The Iraqi army is advancing in Ramadi. 

 Turkey proposes elections for Nov 1.

 

19 AUG:   Russia sends 6 MIG 31’s to Syria matching the 6 F16’s the US sent to Turkey.  A Russian airlift of arms to Damascus which began Monday with the delivery of 1,000 Kornet-9M133 anti-tank guided missiles, continued Wednesday with a delivery by An-124 transports of heavy Russian M-46 MM1954 130 towed field guns with range of up to 16 Miles.  This is part of an agreement to fight the Islamic State resulting from the Iran nuclear deal. 

US Marines to train Bulgarians.

NATO exercise launched in Europe.  Nearly 5,000 soldiers from 11 NATO allies are taking part in four weeks of “simultaneous multinational airborne operations” across Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and Romania that began Saturday, the US army said in a statement, describing “Swift Response 15” as the largest Allied airborne training event on the continent since the end of the Cold War. No reference was made to the war in Ukraine where fighting has escalated in recent days. On Aug. 26, allied warplanes will drop more than 1,000 paratroopers and equipment onto the Hohenfels training area in Germany.

Iran plans to sign a contract for four advanced Russian surface-to-air S-300 missiles as soon as next week with immediate delivery. 

US Boosts support for Yemani dictator war led by Saudi’s – Egyptians.

Libya’s internationally recognized government on Tuesday urged fellow Arab countries to arm its military.   Libya also asked for Arab countries to carry out airstrikes against the militant group in Libya.  Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Dairi made the appeal at an emergency Arab League meeting in Cairo.  Arab League’s chief, Nabil Elaraby, endorsed al-Dairi’s call, urging Arab League members to respond “promptly and effectively.”

 

18 AUG:   Turkey’s prime minister says he has exhausted all options to form a coalition government and will return the mandate to the president this morning.  The president will most likely call a new election for Turkey as soon as possible.  Davutoglu’s AK Party lost its 12-year majority rule in Turkey in elections in June largely because of the success of the pro-Kurdish HDP, but is now riding high in the polls after forcing the Kurdish PKK into seeking a peace deal with Turkey. 

American Jewish leaders come out in support of Iran nuclear deal.

 

17 AUG:   BREAKING 10:10 EDT:   A magnitude 4 tremor has just shaken the Bay area of San Francisco, California.

Four foreigners are now reported among the 27 killed by a terrorist bomb at the Hindu Erawan shrine in central Bangkok Monday.Another 80 people at least were injured. 

French Airbus beats out Boeing for huge order worth $26 billion. 

A peace deal between Israel and the Hamas political wing is close to agreement [This site has a long loading time].  Any such deal is expected to be blocked by militants on both sides,  in Israel and Gaza.

The PKK is asking for the US to mediate a peace with Turkey

Iraqi forces have made gains in the Khamsa Kilo suburb of Ramadi.

 

15 AUG:   Islamic Jihad announces it will scrap ceasefire with Israel if hunger striking Israel prisoner Mohammed Allan being held without charges dies.

Iraqi efforts in Ramadi are progressing very slowly.  They have now surrounded only half the city after a month of fighting and once completely surrounded and cut off they may lay siege to Ramadi for months before launching a decisive attack.

On Thursday Forty US Army Ranger students and four instructors were struck by lightning in Florida during a training program aimed at protecting themselves from a thunderstorm’s lightning bolts,

 

14 AUG:   Al Qaeda pledges allegiance to Taliban, opening the way for a peace deal with Afghanistan / US. 

Roman Catholic church calls for support of Iran Nuclear deal.

New elections for Turkey.   Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said a fresh election appears to be the only option after last-ditch negotiations between his Islamist-rooted AK Party and the main opposition CHP failed. He urged parliament to call for a new vote and said he would prefer it to be held as soon as possible.

In an unprecedented move, IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot released a document to the public on Thursday defining and detailing the army’s national security strategy. 

 Israel is asking for an expansion of a scheduled massive Israeli-American military exercise tentatively scheduled for May 2016.  The exercise will already include thousands of American troops to Israel and Europe along with deployment of US air defense systems including the  Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD).  The US military will direct missile defenses including the THAAD, US Patriot batteries to be deployed in Israel and Aegis air defense ships from command centers in Europe.

The JC16 – a biannual joint air and missile defense drill – is already currently slated to be much larger than the last drill, which took place in May 2014. 

The Islamic State is being accused of using chemical weapons.  The German military claims a possible chemical weapons attack on Kurdish Peshmerga soldiers fighting the Islamic State group (ISIS) in northern Iraq. A US official said this was “plausible.” A group of Western experts has arrived to take samples after a Tuesday night mortar attack on Kurdish positions in Makhmur, 35 km southwest of the capital, Irbil, following claims that the rounds were loaded with chemicals, possibly mustard gas or chlorine.

Palestinian detainee Mohammed Allan, who has been on a hunger strike for nearly 60 days and is now hospitalized at the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, has lost consciousness on Friday morning. Allaan, 31, of a West Bank village of Einabus, has been detained without charge since November last year. 

 

13 AUG:   A bruised and broken Boko Haram has chosen a new leader and sued for peaceAt the same time a large international force is about to launch a final offensive to eradicate that organization by the end of the year.

Israel dealing with two Hamas entities (Ron Ben-Yishai, Ynet) The arrest of Hamas fighter Ibrahim Shaer reveals the complex reality in Gaza, where two separate bodies with different goals and interests – the political wing and the military wing – are competing over the Strip’s management and foreign relations. 

In negotiations with the Hamas political wing a long term peace deal is in the cards, however it is being blocked by the Hamas military wing. In the deal Israel will lift Gaza blockade in exchange for 10 year truce with Gaza Strip

Al-Hayat newspaper reported that the negotiations are being advanced by Tony Blair in his meeting with Hamas politburo chief Khaled Mashaal in Turkey. (Times of Israel and Maariv). Another Israeli Hamas military wing war may be needed to destroy the militants and then secure the peace deal with the moderates, as Hamas splits between the two wings.

12 AUG:   Hillary Clinton starting to fall back in US election polls.

The Syrian army has withdrawn from the Turkish border region near Idlib and Aleppo in the far west, to take up a defensive line around the Alawite areas by the sea. 

California using “shade balls” to cover water resources to prevent evaporation Even this writer can see that the balls are a heat absorbing black and not a heat reflecting white, which makes the effort counterproductive.

 

11 AUG:   A large military contingent crossed into northern Syria from Turkey early Tuesday,  The anti Assad fighters were armed with tanks and artillery, and supported by Turkish fighter jet air cover. 

They entered an area of Syria near Idlib and Aleppo far west of the Islamic State and appear to be establishing safe havens for anti Assad forces, not fighting  against the Islamic State.  The Al Nusrah Front has evacuated the area north of Aleppo making way for the incoming Turkey backed force. 

In response at the last minute, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif called off his visit to Ankara that was scheduled for Tuesday. 

A heavy skirmish took place in Ukraine near the village of Starohnativka, north of Mariupol. 

A new press release from United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), one of the many Sheldon Adelson-funded lobbying groups trying to kill the Iran nuclear deal, hyped the appointment of former Sen. Joe Lieberman to an unspecified “leadership role” in the group. Lieberman has recently been appointed to lucrative key roles at a number of these lobbies.

Buried within the release, however, is a much more interesting story. UANI’s President Gary Samore, who has served in that role since September 2013, has announced his resignation from the post, because while UANI is lobbying against the deal, Samore now supports the deal.  Samore argued that he now believes UANI should transition into a role supportive of the deal and monitoring implementation of it.

Britain raises security alert to severe on reports of four Islamic State agents preparing to strike. 

Last nightTurkey bombed 17 sites of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, around the Buzul mountain and the Ikiyaka region in Hakkari province.

 

10 AUG:    The United States and the new Egyptian Pharaoh [King of the South, Dan 11:40-43] are now in lockstep.  Joint Statement on the U.S.-Egypt Strategic Dialogue  The US has just delivered nine F 16’s and now fully backs Egypt.  Remember that Egypt is the biblical King of the South along with Judea and their allies in the Anglo Saxon nations.  

Egypt and Judah along with their Anglo Saxon allies, will be overcome by the coming New Europe and their Islamic allies, Psalm 83.  Which will be the start of the greatest time of trouble to face humanity since the Noachian flood.

Ukraine is planning a full scale offensive to destroy the eastern Russian speaking autonomy seekers next spring.  Russia: this is our red line for direct full scale intervention in Ukraine.

Iranian Gen. Hassan Hosseini, of the Revolutionary Guards Engineering Corps, was killed in battle over the weekend in the southern Syria town of Deraa. He was buried with full military honors in Tehran Sunday. The eighth Iranian general to die in the Syrian war

 

09 AUG:   Saed Dawabsheh, the father of the fire murdered baby Ali succumbed to his burns and was buried yesterday, the 27-year-old mother and her second child, aged 4 are still in critical condition with 3rd degree burns over 80% of their bodies.  Netanyahu has begun a crackdown on the Jewish extremists which may cost him the next election by splitting his extreme right base.  It is these same kind of fanatics which will sabotage the coming peace deal triggering the great tribulation in a few more years.

The Iraqi Cabinet approved on Sunday Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s sweeping reforms, including abolishing the post of his rival Nuri al-Maliki. 

 

07 AUG:   Israel bombs one Hamas site in Gaza after one Islamic State rocket hits Israel.

 

06 AUG:   Today is the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima Atomic Bombing.  Japan had already surrendered in March 1945 which surrender was not accepted until after the  demonstration bombing for Stalin to make sure the Russian armies would stay in their designated area in Europe when they were quite able to overrun all of Europe in a matter of weeks. 

Making today’s American antiquated and dysfunctional nuclear weapons systems operational is estimated to cost more the a trillion dollars and take more than 30 years.  Today America has no functional nuclear weapons except for a handful on board air force bombers which are totally dependent on the GPS system.

France reimburses Russia for two Carriers which will now enter the French fleet. 

Egypt opens new addition to the Suez Canal; the Canal is now a very rich military and economic treasure; soon to be taken over by the coming New Europe.  

When the Jewish Extremists sabotage the coming peace deal, the New Europe and others will enter the area to enforce the peace. 

Dan 11:40  And at the time of the end shall the king of the south [Egypt and Judah] push at him [provoke the coming New Europe: the King of the North]: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

41 He shall enter also into the glorious land [Judea], and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon [who will join with the New Europe, Psalm 83 (Assur being Germany)].

42 He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

43 But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps [shall bow (submit to) before the New Europe] .

 

05 AUG:  Obama plans address the American people about the Iran deal this afternoon. 

Recent Iranian statements about its conflict with the United States outside of the Iran deal are a reaction to repeated American threats to attack Iran. 

Regardless of the nuclear deal there will be a regional war coming out of the Islamic State war and the US is determined to destroy the Revolutionary Guard in Iran and effect regime change in that country.

Israel breaks Gaza ceasefire deal again.  Israeli military vehicles entered southern Gaza without provocation – Several vehicles entered 100 meters inside the al-Qarrara area east of Khan Younis and razed Palestinian agricultural lands. (Maan

Turkish warplanes continue to pound Kurdish areas in the southeastern Hakkari Province today, hammering mountainous areas which are used as a base of operations for the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), 

Israeli Budget:  Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri and Minister David Azoulay boycotted the government’s meeting on the State budget.  It was earlier (Wednesday) reported that talks between Deri and the heads of the Finance Ministry resulted in a stalemate.

In addition members of the Jewish Home party are saying that the Finance Ministry is insisting on billions of shekels worth of cutbacks in the education budget. The sources say that if the matter is not resolved, the Jewish Home ministers will vote against the budget. “The cutbacks will critically hurt preschool education, peripheral communities, and mathematics studies,” sources within the party said.

US aircraft and drones are arriving at Turkish air bases and a comprehensive battle against Islamic State militants will be launched soon, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.

Turkey formally approved the use of its air bases by US and coalition aircraft in the fight against Islamic State late last month.

“As part of our agreement with the US we have made progress regarding the opening up of our bases, particularly Incirlik,” Cavusoglu told state broadcaster TRT.

“We’re seeing that manned and unmanned American planes are arriving and soon we will launch a comprehensive battle against Islamic State all together,” he said during a trip to Malaysia. 

Soon does not mean immediately, and the assault preparations may be tied to the moderating of the extreme heat this summer [peaking at 160 degrees F]. 

NATO is to cut back its Baltic air patrols freeing up more US aircraft for combat in September.

 

04 AUG:   Saudi Arabia and UAE begin invasion of Yemen with Egyptian support, landing two armored brigades and several commando battalions at Aden this morning.  Tonight all roads heading north out of Aden are clogged with convoys of heavy Saudi Abraham M1 tanks and long lines of heavy French made Leclerc tanks contributed by the UAE army, are advancing on Taiz Yemen’s second largest city. 

After repairing the Aden airport, large crews of workers are now preparing Al-Anad, Yemen’s biggest airport 48 km north of Aden, for Saudi and UAE fighter-bombers to take off for air strikes.

Meanwhile cargo planes have been landing at the Aden airport with hundreds of armored personnel carriers, some of them Russian-made BMD3s, others Humvees made in America –  and all fitted with short-range ground-to-ground missiles – as well dozens of US-made mine-resistant, ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles designed to withstand roadside bombs were freighted in by air. 

Houthis as well as Islamic State fighters are fleeing in panic.

America pledges to defend Israel in any Israeli conflict with Iran.

 

03 AUG:   The United States has decided to provide air cover for Syrian rebels trained by the US military from any attackers, including Syrian government forces, rival groups and the Islamic State.  The decision by President Barack Obama to join Turkey in enforcing the recently declared “no fly” buffer zone along the Turkish border, is a prelude to the US backed insurgents entering Syria from Turkey. 

In addition Obama has authorized the use of American air power to defend the US backed rebels anywhere inside Syria.  This amounts to US air support for rebel activities anywhere inside Syria.  These decisions are open acts of war by the United States.

 

02 AUG:   The Turkish president is working to defeat and remove from parliament the HDP ultra liberal and Kurdish party which won the over 10% of the vote needed to enter parliament in the last election.

France and Germany to set up their own armored vehicle production cartel.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced a joint meeting Sunday with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir during a 48-hour visit to the Qatari capital, Doha. Kerry will be coming from Cairo where he had discussed regional security.  The Doha talks will focus on the Islamic State and the fate of the Syrian regime. 

 

01 AUG:   TURKEY UPDATE:     On Friday, 28 Turkish F-16s destroyed 65 targets of the PKK including shelters and arms depots, following the heaviest air strikes the day before, when 80 Turkish aircraft hit 100 PKK targets, Turkish F-16 jets carried out more air strikes Saturday morning. 

Pressure is mounting on the PKK as the Iraqi Kurds are now demanding that the PKK withdraw from Iraq.  The office of the Kurdish region’s president Massud Barzani said in a statement Saturday that the PKK rebels need to move out of the region. 

Two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip fell in the border fence area in the northern strip late Saturday night after Hamas called for attacks on Israel in the wake the terrorist fire bomb attack on two Palestinian houses killing an infant and critically injuring its parents and brother; and the killing of at least three other Palestinians in the past week. Law enforcement has begun searching to see whether any projectiles fell in Israeli territory. No sirens were sounded.

Over 100 coalition air strikes have hit the Islamic State in Ramadi as the Iraqi forces are cutting off the city and strangling it.  American military officials now promise a decisive offensive to liberate the city by the end of September. 

The Islamic State territory is slowly shrinking.   Although after a year of airstrikes the IS is actually stronger due to heavy numbers of people volunteering.

NATO has stepped into the Islamic State war in Iraq by agreeing to retrain the Iraqi forces,  NATO has announced today that it has agreed to an Iraqi military request to launch a new program to help retrain the nation’s military, and to help it “reform” its entire security sector.

The NATO training program will be conducted in Turkey and Jordan and will be in addition to the American / Coalition training efforts.
