David thanks God as he reminisces about his life
Psalm 23 is an allegory about the called out first fruits who are called to become kings in the Kingdom of God.
The called out first fruits of the New Covenant are to follow God and to live by every Word of God the Good Shepherd just like David did; and if they continue in doing so, they shall be filled with the spiritual meat of the Word and in the resurrection will receive eternal life and all good things.
Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
God has promised David and all overcoming called out first fruits who are filled with the righteousness of the whole Word of God, that their lives will be restored in the resurrection to eternal life from the dead.
23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though we die physically, if we accept the rod of God’s wise instructional correction and lean on the sure staff of God’s Righteous Word we need not fear, for if we are faithful to live by every Word of God we have God’s unshakable promise that he will raise us up from the valley of death to eternal life as a spirit.
23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
God has promised that if we are faithful to live by every Word of God, he will raise up to eternal life in the sight of our enemies, and will pour out the anointing of kingship and priesthood upon us
23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
We have God’s unbreakable promise that if we are faithful to live by every Word of God, enduring and overcoming all things through the power of God dwelling in us, God’s mercy and blessings will pour upon us like a river and we shall dwell for all eternity in the house [family] of God.

All things were created by God and belong to him
Psalm 24:1 The earth is the LORD’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 24:2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

24:3 Who shall ascend into the hill [temple] of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?

24:9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 24:10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

The LORD is the Deliverer of all those who put their trust in him to follow him whithersoever he goeth (Rev 14:3)
33:20 Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. 33:21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. 33:22 Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope [put our trust in and live by God’s Word] in thee.
Rejoicing over God’s deliverance from the grave in a resurrection to spirit, a prophecy of Messiah the Christ and his resurrection as the first of many to also be delivered from the grave
Psalm 34:1 I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
When we live by every Word of God the Father in Christ-like zeal; God will deliver us from fear of death and the grave
34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. 34:5 They [the faithful] looked [put their trust in God and obeyed Him] unto him, and were lightened [enlightened with truth and encouraged]: and their faces were not ashamed [because God keeps His promises].
34:6 This poor [humble man, poor in the spirit of self will] man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him [God delivers those who love and respect him enough to live by his Word], and delivereth them.
God is good and full of mercy and deliverance for all those who put their trust in him to live by every Word of God
34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. 34:9 O fear [greatly respect and hold in awe] the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want [no lack of deliverance from sin and death] to them that fear him.
Even though the mighty perish, God’s faithful will be preserved
34:10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
34:11 Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear [love, faithful obedience and respect] of the LORD.
If you desire victory over bondage to Satan and sin, and the gift of eternal life then learn to live by every Word of God
34:12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? 34:13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue [godliness, for only God is good] it.
God the Father watched over and will deliver from death and the grave all those who love him enough to live by every Word of God
34:15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.
God the Father will destroy all those who refuse to live by every Word of God, rejecting God and the truth of his Word
34:16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth.
God’s Word is righteousness and the righteous will live by every Word of God, God will deliver all those who passionately live by every Word of God in the resurrection to spirit
34:17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart [are sincerely repentant abhorring their sins]; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit [hav the stubborn spirit of self will crushed to powder in submissive humility before God] .
God shall deliver those who live by every Word of God but the wicked shall perish in their unrepentant wickedness
34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. 34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken [a prophecy of the death and resurrection of Christ the righteous] .
34:21 Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous [those who despise others who are zealous to live by every Word of God shall not be in the resurrection to spirit, even if they have been baptized and attend some corporate assembly] shall be desolate. 34:22 The LORD redeemeth the soul [lives] of his servants [by the blood sacrifice of the Lamb of God] : and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.
A prayer for the deliverance of the godly who live by the Word of God and a prophecy of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ
God our Father WILL hear the prayer of those who love him enough to live by every Word of God and he will deliver us from death and the grave as he delivered the Lamb of God, the first born of many brethren!
The day will come when God the Father will send Messiah the Christ the Deliverer to take up his instruments of war and return to the earth to deliver his faithful and destroy Babylon the Wicked Rev 15 and Rev 19)!
Psalm 35:1 Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. 35:2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. 35:3 Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
Almighty God will bring the wicked, who persecute the righteous who live by the Word of God, down in his zeal for his beloved
35:4 Let them [the wicked] be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. 35:5 Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them. 35:6 Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them.
35:7 For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged [a grave] for my soul [life]. 35:8 Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid [for the godly] catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall.
35:9 And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation. 35:10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor [poor in the spirit of pride and stubborn self will] from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor [humble] and the needy [who know they need and hunger and thirst for the Word of God] from him that spoileth him?
A prophecy of the trial and crucifixion of Christ, and a complaint of the righteous against the lies and deeds of the wicked
35:11 False witnesses did rise up; they laid to my charge things that I knew not. 35:12 They rewarded me evil for good to the spoiling of my soul.
Jesus healed even the unconverted in his ministry and the godly care even for the wicked. Jesus lived by every Word of God and fasted, and his prayers were answered by God the Father, as the prayers of all those who live in Christ-like zeal by every Word of God are answered
35:13 But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom [answered by God].
The godly mourn for the wicked and their desire is that the wicked would sincerely repent and be saved
35:14 I behaved myself as though he [the wicked persons] had been my friend or brother: I bowed [Jesus and the faithful deeply desire the sincere repentance and saving of the wicked, as David mourned for Absalom] down heavily, as one that mourneth for his mother.
Although Jesus Christ loved them, the wicked rejoiced over his death, even so the wicked rejoice over the trials of the righteous to this day
35:15 But in mine adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together: yea, the abjects gathered themselves together against me, and I knew it not; they did tear me, and ceased not:
The wicked who observe the Feasts in hypocrisy not living by every Word of God, mock and persecute those who are zealous to live by every Word of God
35:16 With hypocritical mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth [their abusive words] .
David asks, as every righteous man has asked through the ages: When will God’s deliverance come
35:17 Lord, how long wilt thou look on? rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.
The day will come when the righteous will greatly rejoice over their deliverance from all things, including death itself. Then as all nations are gathered at the Feasts of the LORD the delivered shall teach of the greatness of God
35:18 I will give thee thanks in the great congregation: I will praise thee among much people.
The wicked rejoiced over the crucifixion of Messiah and still rejoice at the calamities of the righteous. Let not the wicked rejoice over the apparent fall of those who live by the righteousness of every Word of God
35:19 Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them wink with the eye [in derision] that hate me without a cause. 35:20 For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.
The wicked rejoice saying that they have seem the fall of those who love God enough to live by his every Word; they rejoice for they feel vindicated by the calamity of the righteous, that they are right and the zealous for God are wrong
35:21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it.
On that day our Mighty LORD will raise himself up to deliver his faithful from the very grave itself and shall pour out his wrath on the unrepentant wicked
35:22 This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me. 35:23 Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. 35:24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness [which is every Word of God] ; and let them not rejoice over me.
35:25 Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him [destroyed Christ in the crucifixion, and also His servants] up.
When Christ comes the wicked will see him and hear his words commanding that all men live by every Word of God the Father. The rejoicing of the wicked over the calamity of all those who live by every Word of God shall be turned to terrible correction and mourning.
35:26 Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.
When the righteous are delivered they shall rejoice and praise the Eternal the Deliverer forever
35:27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant. 35:28 And my tongue shall speak of thy righteousness and of thy praise all the day long.
David’s inspired opinion of the wicked; they are proud, loving themselves and having no regard for God to live by the Word of God
Psalm 36:1 The transgression of the wicked saith within my heart [David is inspired to understand the wicked], that there is no fear of God before his eyes [the wicked are proud, self willed and full of themselves having no humility to submit to the Word of God]. 36:2 For he flattereth himself in his own eyes [the wicked are always right in their own eyes], until [until God rejects and corrects him for his hateful wickedness] his iniquity be found to be hateful [abhorrent to God and are corrected by God’s righteous rebuke] .
The wicked lay awake at night scheming how to deceive and gain advantage for themselves; their words are deceitful for they have no love for truth and no love to live by the Word of God. The wicked can be very impressive slick talkers who can con a dove out of its feathers. They claim to be full of love as they deceitfully steal your spiritual crowns and your physical means. They love their own way’s and abhor to live by every Word of God.
36:3 The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit: he hath left off to be wise, and to do good. 36:4 He deviseth mischief upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.
The wisdom, judgments and justice of God are far greater than the wicked, and God’s mercy is everlasting to all those who love him and live by His Word
36:5 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. 36:6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.
36:7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. 36:8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness [the wealth] of thy house [family, kingdom]; and thou shalt make them drink of the river [the river of Living Waters of the Word and Spirit of God] of thy pleasures [the chief pleasure of the faithful is to please God by fulfilling his Word].
Water is essential for life and this is most clearly evident in a desert land; therefore the scriptures refer to God’s Word and Spirit as the Fountain or River of Living Waters which is essential for eternal spiritual life. There will be special article on this during the Feast of Tabernacles Fall Festival.
36:9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.
Let us plead together with David that the spirit of pride will never be found in us, or come near to us and that we will always cleave to the righteousness of the Word of God. Pray that we, by clinging to every Word of God, will never be deceived by the wicked who seek to turn us away from our LORD
36:10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart [upright in wholehearted faithfulness to live by every Word of God]. 36:11 Let not the foot of pride come against me, and let not the hand of the wicked remove me. 36:12 There are the workers of iniquity fallen: they are cast down, and shall not be able to rise.
Encouragement to trust in God, and to neither envy the apparent physical prosperity nor fear the deeds of the wicked; for they shall soon perish and their deeds with them
Psalm 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Always be absolutely faithful to trust in the LORD and to live by every Word of God, and we shall be raised up to eternal life with him
37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good [live by every Word of God]; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
When the righteous of God are raised up from their graves they shall shine brightly forever
Psalm 37:6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment [justice] as the noonday.
Do not be concerned over the prosperity of the wicked for this is Satan’s world and he gives to those who follow him, for these physical things will perish with the wicked, while those who put their trust in the LORD to live by his every Word, shall live forever and partake of eternal riches.
Avoid anger and envy of the wicked who will quickly perish and remain dedicated in Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God, and we shall be raised up to eternal life as Jesus was.
37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. 37:10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place [we shall look for them and they will not be found for the unrepentant wicked will perish forever], and it shall not be.
Those who are meek and submissive to the Word of God shall inherit the earth.
37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
37:12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth [attacks them with deceitful words and lies; teeth being an ancient term for tongues] .
God and his faithful laugh at the devises of the wicked knowing that they are doomed to destruction if they will not sincerely repent, while those who love and live by every Word of God shall be delivered and sanctified forever
37:13 The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
37:14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation [righteous conduct, living by every Word of God].
The devices of the wicked shall turn back against them and they shall fall by them
37:15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
The Eternal upholds those who love him and live by his Word, but the unrepentant wicked shall surely perish
37:16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. 37:17 For the arms [strength, wealth] of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.
The Eternal shall deliver his faithful in the day of trouble, raising them up from the very grave and death itself, to eternal life with God and every good thing
37:18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. 37:19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
In the ultimate end the unrepentant wicked shall be consumed in the fires of eternal death in Gehenna
37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
The wicked take and laugh at the righteous for giving to them, while the godly are a merciful people like their Father in heaven
37:21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
37:22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.
37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD [a good man conducts himself according to the Word of God]: and he delighteth in his [God’s] way [every Word of God and in all truth]. 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
The measure of a person is not whether they have problems, for all have sinned; the true measure of a person is in how he handles his troubles.
A godly man will acknowledge his errors and turn to God in sincere repentance, to get back up and continue in the godly way having learned from his mistakes.
The wicked will justify themselves and continue in their errors and sins, defending falsehood in their great pride and preferring to cleave to sin rather than to admit error and accept truth.
Those who live by every Word of God will be filled with the unleavened Bread of Life, Jesus Christ the Passover Lamb of God
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
The godly like their God are merciful
37:26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
The wicked shall come to their end but those who live by every Word of God shall be established forever
37:27 Depart from evil, and do good [live by every Word of God]; and dwell for evermore [shall receive eternal life]. 37:28 For the LORD loveth judgment [justice], and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
Righteousness is to live by every Word of God, and as the righteous of the Mosaic Covenant inherited the physical promised land, the righteous of the New Covenant shall inherit the Promised Land of eternal life
37:29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
The Word of God is Wisdom and Justice
37:30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment [justice].
The Law and Word of God are written on the hearts of the righteous and those who live by every Word of God shall be delivered
37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
The wicked seek to persecute and destroy the godly, but God will deliver those who live by his Word
37:32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. 37:33 The LORD will not leave [the righteous] him in his hand [in the hand of the wicked], nor [God will not condemn those who live by his Word] condemn him when he is judged.
Those who patiently endure and live by every Word of God shall be changed to spirit and be granted eternal life to inherit the earth as kings and priests of God forever. The unrepentant wicked shall be destroyed forever.
37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou [the righteous shall see the end of the unrepentant wicked] shalt see it.
The strongest and greatest of the unrepentant wicked, including Satan himself, shall be destroyed never to be found again
37:35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself [growing strong] like a green bay tree. 37:36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
The final end of the person who lives by every Word of God is eternal life at peace with God
37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
The final end of the unrepentant wicked is eternal destruction
37:38 But the transgressors [of any part of the Word of God] shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
Those who live by every Word of God are precious in God’s eyes and shall be delivered to eternal life with God
37:39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. 37:40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
God will correct all those that he loves when they have gone astray, so that by afflicting the flesh the spirit may be saved
Psalm 38:1 O lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure. 38:2 For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore. 38:3 There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.
It is because of our own stubborn self will and insistence on living by our own ways instead of living by the Word of God that will bring our eternal destruction. When we fall into such pride, a loving God corrects us afflicting the flesh to save the spirit.
38:4 For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me. 38:5 My wounds [which have come as the result of my sins] stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.
38:6 I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly [greatly afflicted]; I go mourning [over the evils in the land, and repenting over my sins] all the day long. 38:7 For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh. 38:8 I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared [cried out in anguish] by reason of the disquietness of my heart [I am full of sorrow over all iniquitous conduct].
If our desire is to live by every Word of God, he will correct us when we go astray and will deliver us when we learn our lesson and turn back to him. Nothing can be hidden from God.
38:9 Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.
Though all the earth be against us because we live by every Word of God, the godly will be steadfast and will put their trust in the Eternal. Even if we must suffer many sorrows in this physical life our Mighty One will deliver us from the grave into an eternal life of blessings and rejoicing.
38:10 My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me. 38:11 My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off. 38:12 They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.
The righteous put their trust in God and the Word of God and not in men.
8:13 But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth. 38:14 Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs. 38:15 For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.
God will deliver his faithful and the enemy shall not continue in rejoicing over the fall of the godly but will be corrected.
38:16 For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me. 38:17 For I am ready to halt [ready to perish] sorrow is continually before me.
When we are afflicted let us sincerely repent and RUN to the Eternal our Deliverer.
38:19 But mine enemies [spiritually Satan and sin] they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.
When I do good the wicked hate me and attack me for living by God’s Word.
38:20 They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.
Ultimately God delivers those who live by every Word of God
38:21 Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me. 38:22 Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.
The faithful pay serious attention to their words and actions, to live by and be consistent with every Word of God. David says that he kept silent to be guiltless of speaking wrongfully.
Psalm 39:1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. 39:2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.
Then after much deep thought David calls on God to give him an understanding of the transitory nature of the flesh, so that he could be humble before God and not full of the pride of the flesh. God often teaches his people humility through sickness, trials and afflictions of the flesh.
39:3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue, 39:4 LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.
Physical things are vanity because all physical things are temporary and transitory in nature with no lasting value except for the lessons to be learned, which if we are sincerely repentant and receive eternal life, can last forever.
39:5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
All the efforts and sufferings of the flesh are pointless unless we learn to be humble before and to put our trust in the LORD to do his will.
39:6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
Let us reject and be silent for our own ways, and let us place our trust in the LORD to be faithful for HIS ways
39:7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
39:8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.
Let us be dumb to declare our own ways or to complain against God, and let us be submissive to the Word and ways of God, who corrects us for our good.
39:9 I was dumb, I opened not my mouth [to complain against the correction of God]; because thou didst it. 39:10 Remove thy stroke [Father cease from correcting me and be merciful for I sincerely repent] away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.
God’s merciful correction reveals to men the transitory nature of the beauties of the flesh and humbles men to put their trust in God, that by living by every Word of God they might receive the true lasting beauty of eternal life. This same lesson of the transitory mature of the flesh is taught through living in temporary dwellings during the Feast of Tabernacles.
39:11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.
God’s called out are strangers and travelers in this physical land of flesh, because we serve God and not vain physical things
39:12 Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger [a stranger in this land because I serve God and not the things of the flesh] with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.
God shall save his chosen from the grave, lest they perish forever like the wicked
39:13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.
If we patiently continue in living by every Word of God he will hear our prayers and will deliver us out of the pit of the grave
Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 40:2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit [God will resurrect his chosen faithful from the grave], out of the miry clay [the grave], and set my feet upon a rock [the Rock of Salvation Jesus Christ], and established my goings.
Those who are resurrected shall sing the praises of their Deliverer, and those who see the resurrection at the coming of Christ will begin to fear and glorify God and repent to live by every Word of God
40:3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
The person who lives by every Word of God shall be blessed, for they shall be delivered from the grave to eternal life
40:4 Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud [or respect impressive men more than God] , nor such as turn aside to lies.
The mercies and awesome deeds of our Mighty God to deliver his people are beyond counting by men
40:5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered.
God desires our faithful obedience to his Word, and not sacrifices for our disobedience.
40:6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.
A prayer of David as a prophecy of “That Prophet,” Jesus Christ and his work in the flesh; who declared the righteousness and holiness of God the Father and commanded us to live by every Word of God.
40:7 Then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book [the scriptures prophesied of Christ] it is written of me, 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God [God the Father]: yea, thy law is within my heart [having the Holy Spirit of God]. 40:9 I have preached righteousness in the great congregation: lo, I have not refrained my lips [from teaching the Word of God], O LORD, thou knowest. 40:10 I have not hid thy righteousness [Jesus taught God’s Word] within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation.
40:11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth [God’s Word is truth] continually preserve me. 40:12 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities [David speaks of his sins as an allegory that Jesus would bear the sins of the whole world] have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me.
Let those who sought his life be confounded when he is raised from the grave
