Israel Begins Assassinations of Top Gaza Militants

UPDATE 10:15 EDT:

NEW MOON:  The first light of the new moon should be easily seen in Jerusalem immediately after sunset ending 27 August, making 28 August the first day of the sixth biblical month.

There is a very faint possibility that the Feast of Trumpets will be on 26 Sep; if not, the Feast will definitely be on Sep 27.

Because of the difficulty of determining the seventh month and the first day being a High Holy Day, it has been the practice since the most ancient of times to set aside two days; the earliest possible and the next day; just in case the moon is not seen on the first iffy day.

Israel Begins Assassinations of Top Gaza Militants

While the fate of top Hamas commander Mohammed Deif remains unclear after an assassination attempt which broke the ceasefire on Tuesday afternoon; at about 02:30 local time  Thursday Israel killed three of its senior commanders – Rafah Division commander Raed al-Attar, Southern Division commander Mohammed Abu Shmallah and Rafah Division senior commander Mohammed Barhoum in an overnight strike.

Abu Shmallah and Al-Attar were involved in the planning and commanded the operation to kidnap IDF soldier Gilad Shalit

The Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigade said the three were killed in a 2:30am bombing of a house in the Tel al-Sultan refugee camp west of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip. Seven other people were killed and 25 others wounded in the attack.

Israel reports 223 rockets fired in since Tuesday evening until 04:00 EDT today; 168 fired on Wednesday.

Sources within the Israeli defense system estimated on Thursday morning that Hamas will respond to the assassinations of some of its most senior commanders by launch a large-scale rocket attack against Israel.

“Israel will pay a heavy price for the assassination of senior commanders,” Hamas warned.
