The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), the jihadist group which has seized territory in Iraq and Syria, on Sunday declared itself an Islamic “caliphate” and called on factions worldwide to pledge their allegiance.
The group has shortened its name to “Islamic State” and proclaimed its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as “Caliph” – the head of the state. “Accordingly, the ‘Iraq and Sham’ (Levant) in the name of the Islamic State is henceforth removed from all official deliberations and communications, and the official name is changed to the Islamic State from the date of this declaration,”
The Sunni Muslim group follows Al-Qaeda’s hard-line ideology, but has publicly split with Al-Qaeda which has renounced ISIS. The ISIS is trying to become the head of all Sunni Islamic Extremists including Al Qaeda.
The group seeks to re-create a medieval-style caliphate erasing borders from the Mediterranean to the Gulf. It deems Shiite Muslims [mainly Iran] to be heretics deserving death.
“It is incumbent upon all Muslims to pledge allegiance to (him) and support him…The legality of all emirates, groups, states, and organizations, becomes null by the expansion of the khalifah’s authority and arrival of its troops to their areas,”
While calling for all extremists to join them in taking over the Sunni Middle East the ISIS is turning the populations they control against them, by their brutal crucifixions and beheadings of any that stray from their extremist line. The other Extremist groups are tending to turn on and gang up on the ISIS instead of joining them.
At present the Allies are working on separating the Sunni tribes from the ISIS as they prepare for an operation to destroy Islamic Extremism.
Brig. Gen. Dennis McKean, commander of the joint US-Jordanian-Israeli underground Centcom-Forward war room near Amman, has been ordered to place the 12,000 US soldiers and USAF F-16 fighter squadron positioned in Jordan on combat alert for operations against the Al Qaeda ISIS.
This comes as the US is providing aerial support for the Bagdad offensive against the ISIS in Tikrit.
Brig. McKean is in direct communication with Israel’s Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, the commander of Israel’s Deep Operations command, Maj. Gen. Shay Avital and Israel Air Force chief Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel and Jordanian commanders to coordinate actions against Gaza and the ISIS.
Demonstrations in support of the ISIS by Jordanian dissidents have broken out in Jordan, particularly in Ma’an.
