Hosea 8 – 14

Hosea 8

God commands to blast a warning like a trumpet, calling people to sincerely repent; the enemy is at the gates the correction of the LORD is at hand!

Because of our sins of idolatry, Sabbath breaking and rejecting godly knowledge  and our spiritual adultery; our correction is at hand!

Hosea 8:1 Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

Then spiritual and physical Israel shall call out for deliverance but there will be NO deliverance any more; until we have been thoroughly  humbled, and have sincerely repented and turned to live by EVERY WORD of God!

8:2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

Because our Mighty One is against us, the enemy shall pursue and overtake us for the overspreading of all our abominations

8:3 Israel [physical and spiritual] hath cast off the thing that is good [We have rejected the good things of godliness]: the enemy shall pursue him.

The nations of Israel are an instructional allegory of today’s Ekklesia. We have ordained ungodly men and we love mammon more than we love God.

8:4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

Have we not exalted our idols of men and not followed the Holy One? Have we not followed men, equating loyalty to them and their false traditions, with loyalty to God himself? Have we not followed such men into sin and away from our Husband, instead of following them ONLY as they follow Christ our Husband?

8:5 Thy calf, [idols]  O Samaria, hath cast thee off [our idols of men cannot save us from the wrath of our offended Husband against whom we have been adulterous]; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency [to purity from sin]?

As Almighty God destroyed the idols of the past; he will destroy the idols of today!

Our corporate church’s will be destroyed along with all the unrepentant  wicked shepherds who would lead the people to exalt idols of men, above living by EVERY WORD of God.

8:6 For from Israel was it also: the workman made it [idols are made by man and shall perish]; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

Our golden calf is our corporate churches!!! They are organizations of men made by men and are NOT God!!!

Almighty God is a jealous Husband and he will destroy our golden calf of corporate churches that he might turn his bride back to himself.  In the soon coming tribulation our Lord will destroy the corporate churches, and FORCE people to stand or fall spiritually based on our zeal and  fidelity to HIS WORD.

Almighty God will destroy our crutch and our cloak for our sins [“The elder said it was alright to do this contrary to God’s Word”]; and FORCE us to stand like adults and place our Husband FIRST; or fail to do so and be counted unworthy of eternal life and a part in the bride.    We are like a wheat plant that has no stalk and cannot produce grain [spiritual fruit], and if we should have some natural good in us, it will perish. Strangers and enemies will swallow us up because we have not remained attached to the Vine of our Salvation, John 15.  We have departed from any zeal to live by Every Word of the Father and the Son to follow idols of men.

8:7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

8:8 Israel [and apostate spiritual Israel] is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is [God has no pleasure] no pleasure.

8:9 For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers [sought out allies of men which cannot save her; and rejected turning to the God of Salvation, who ONLY can save; just as the brethren seek and follow idols of  men and not God today] .

8:10 Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

Physical Israel will not be saved by allies of men or through compromising with the enemy; and spiritual Israel will not be saved by her idols of men when the Eternal corrects her. We shall BOTH be made to sorrow for all our abominations, and brought to sincere repentance through that humbling.

8:11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

8:12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

God does not accept us because we are full of sin.

8:13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the LORD accepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

God does not accept our offerings and prayers to him, because we are full of pride and unrepented sin; he has hidden his face from us; because we have departed from his commandments to commit adultery against the Husband of our baptismal commitment.

We of spiritual Israel, like physical Israel; have forgotten who has made us and follow idols of men.  While Judah trusts in her military strength which the Almighty shall destroy with a wave of his hand, for all their sins in idolizing the traditions of men above living by Every Word of God.

8:14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

Neither our idols of men nor idols of military might  will save us from the wrath of a jealous Husband over his adulterous bride. We will not be saved because we belong ot some group or race and consider ourselves the temple of God.  Our deliverance comes through our repentant ZEAL for God and his commandments!

Jeremiah 7:1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 7:2 Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

7:3 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. 7:4 Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

7:5 For if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor;

7:6 If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever. 7:8 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit. 7:9 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

7:10 And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

7:11 Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

7:12 But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

Hosea 9

Because physical and spiritual Israel has sold themselves to idols; they shall reap  strong correction from God.

Hosea 9:1 Rejoice not, O Israel, for joy, as other people: for thou hast gone a whoring from thy God, thou hast loved a reward upon every cornfloor.

9:2 The floor and the winepress shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail in her.

This speaks of the first captivity of Israel which began about 721 B.C. as a type of the final tribulation now about to begin in our day.

9:3 They shall not dwell in the LORD’s land [Palestine]; but Ephraim shall return to Egypt [spiritually a type of bondage], and they shall [even the brethren shall be starving enough to eat filth] eat unclean things in Assyria.

9:4 They shall not offer wine offerings to the LORD, neither shall they be pleasing unto him: their sacrifices shall be unto them as the bread of mourners; all that eat thereof shall be polluted: for their bread for their soul shall not come into the house of the LORD.

Brethren, it is far past time for the mourning and fasting of repentance; for the humbling of ourselves before our God and the seeking out of our Savior, that he might deliver us from the weakness and sin that besets us. Let us wholeheartedly turn to our Husband in passionate love, seeking his forgiveness; perhaps he will extend his abundant mercies; before his anger grows hot and his correction comes upon us.

What will we do in the Feast of the LORD during our time of correction?

9:5 What will ye do in the solemn day, and in the day of the feast of the LORD?

9:6 For, lo, they are gone [The Feasts are not kept and the people are diminished] because of destruction: Egypt [In this last tribulation Egypt shall also be taken and shall gather up great multitudes of dead] shall gather them up, Memphis shall bury them: the pleasant places for their silver, [The silver and gold will be taken as spoils and the store houses shall be empty and desolate] nettles [the store houses will be filled with weeds and briers] shall possess them: thorns shall be in their tabernacles [tents, homes].

9:7 The days of visitation are come, the days of recompence are come; Israel shall know it: the [The false prophets who despise God’s wisdom, claiming that the tribulation of correction is not at hand when they are warned and the signs are everywhere] prophet is a fool, the spiritual man is [The true godly person is vexed and driven mad by the wickedness around him] mad, for the multitude of thine iniquity, and the great hatred [against the godly who are warning them to repent]

The sins and judgment of Ephraim, as an example for and a type of; the sins and judgment of the Ekklesia

9:8 The watchman of Ephraim was with my God: but the [false] prophet is a snare of a fowler in all his ways, and hatred [The false leaders hate the truth speakers who are zealous for the Eternal, because they want the people to follow them and not the whole Word of God; therefore such evil doers will be despised and rejected by the Eternal God, Rev 3:15] in the house of his God.

9:9 They have deeply corrupted themselves, as in the days of Gibeah: therefore he will remember their iniquity, he will visit their sins.

The Watchman speaks the truth to the brethren and trumpets the true Gospel of warning and repentance.

The false prophets deceive the people and ensnare them into being lax for God’s commandments; saying that they are delivered to pollute the Sabbath and to exalt men and the false traditions for the sake of organizational unity.

The false teachers say, “no correction will come upon us for we are the temple of the Lord”; they deceive the brethren into idolatry and then lull them to sleep with lullaby’s of how righteous they are, as the Eternal in his anger turns away from us.  they promise safety an deliverance as they steal our crowns and lead us to our destruction.

Imagine yourself  very hungry as you travelled across a desolate place and you happened across some just ripe fresh grapes, or some first ripe figs;  what a great delight!  and after eating them you because sick as they turned bitter in your stomach.  So is the experience of God with physical and today’s called out Ekklesia of spiritual Israel.

9:10 I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: but they went to Baalpeor [turned from God to their idols], and separated themselves unto that shame; and their abominations were according as they loved.

We were pleasant in our first passionate love when the Father found us and called us out to be espoused to his Son; then later we played the spiritual whore with idolatry.

Ephraim shall have his glory dissipate and the brethren will also have their grand buildings destroyed.

9:11 As for Ephraim, their glory shall fly away like a bird, from the birth, and from the womb, and from the conception.

9:12 Though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there shall not be a man left: yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!

9:13 Ephraim, as I saw Tyrus, is planted in a pleasant place: but Ephraim shall bring forth his children to the murderer.

9:14 Give them, O LORD: what wilt thou give? give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

Can one read this and not be reminded of how Christ [Hebrew: Yeshua] drove the wicked out of the Temple.  Jesus did that to Ephraim when he gave them over to the Assyrians, and he did this in God the Father’s temple as an instructional example to today’s called out; that Jesus Christ will  reject and cast out those who commit spiritual adultery against him by following idols of men.

9:15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.

9:16 Ephraim is smitten, their root is dried up, they shall bear no fruit: yea, though they bring forth, yet will I slay even the beloved fruit of their womb.

9:17 My God will cast them away, because they did not hearken unto him: and they shall be wanderers among the nations.

Ephraim and Israel shall be corrected with a great correction; their first captivity being but a a small foretaste of that great correction now at the door. This is also an analogy of Laodicea and the great correction the called out Ekklesia faces for departing from any zeal to live by every Word of God to follow idols of men in spiritual adultery.

Hosea 10

Physical Israel is an example and instruction for the spiritual Israel of the New Covenant called out. Israel both physical and spiritual does not bear the spiritual fruit of godliness; instead they have used the fruit of the land [God’s blessings] for idolatry.

Hosea 10:1 Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.

The called out are divided [double minded, hypocritical] as they pay lip-service to God while they follow idols of men to do as they think right; instead of being zealous to live by what God teaches is right.

10:2 Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.

Our many corporate church organizations which we obey instead of living by God’s Word, are our alters of our idols of men, that most of the brethren exalt above living by EVERY WORD of God today.

God will destroy all our organizational idols; that the brethren might be turned to a zeal for HIM alone.  Many love their “church” more than they love God!

When we learn that total unity with our Husband is the purpose of our calling; and when we achieve that unity through internalizing the mind, nature and spirit of God, through the diligent keeping of all of every Word of God: We will be acceptable as a part of the bride.

In tribulation we shall learn that we are in severe affliction because we did not fear or love God enough to follow him with a whole heart.

10:3 For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?

When we made our baptismal commitment of espousal to God, to live by EVERY WORD of God; we made a false commitment which we have not kept.  For today’s spiritually called out Ekklesia follow idols of men contrary to our commitment to live by EVERY WORD of God (Mat 4:4):  And we are living in a continual state of spiritual adultery against our espoused Husband!

10:4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant [which we have not kept]: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock [our judgment (guilt and condemnation) is springing up everywhere like weeds in a field] in the furrows of the field.

Our false leaders will be removed that we shall follow no leader except the Lord of Hosts; and that we may turn to our Husband and glory in him. Then we shall turn to a zeal for his law, and sound judgment shall begin to spring up within us like the weeds spring up in the fields for multitude.

10:5 The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Bethaven [because our idols (of corporate church organizations and men) are destroyed]: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

As ancient Israel was carried away in captivity to Assyria we shall face defeat by the enemy today, for our Protector has abandoned us for our endless idolatry and spiritual adulteries.

Physical Israel shall mourn at her affliction; and the spiritually called out brethren and elders who rejoiced in their corporate idols, shall mourn when they are destroyed.

10:6 It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

10:7 As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.

All of the churches who follow idols of men and refuse to live by EVERY WORD of God will be destroyed from the land.  This includes all religions in the land.  Then in the time of their affliction they shall seek death, but God will bring them to repentance with HOPE!

Yes, when the peoples see the dead in Christ resurrected they will remember the words of God’s servants, that their Messiah is coming and that their deliverance is at hand!  Then they will turn to accept and embrace HIM, and will welcome him with a great rejoicing!

10:8 The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

Our false gods will be taken away and we shall be turned back to our Husband.

10:9 O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.

10:10 It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows [The furrow of Israel and the furrow of Judah].

It is in God’s mind to afflict us to correct us and turn us to HIM; so that he might save and deliver us unto himself as a chaste and faithful bride and a righteous people.

10:11 And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn [grain];

Ephraim [s a type of Israel and Judah] loves to serve sin; but God will break us of hat addiction and teach us to serve righteousness and to bring forth the fruit of righteousness.

. . . but I passed over upon her fair neck [God will deliver us from bondage to sin]: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.

10:12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

God commands us to repent and turn to him, to plow and sow righteousness, in the sure hope of receiving mercy.

For we have sowed wickedness in departing from the law of our God and we will be corrected if we do not quickly repent

10:13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way [Trusting in our own ways and in our own wisdom and judgment and our own strength, instead of trusting in and  living by the Word of God], in the multitude of thy mighty men.

In the day that our affliction begins, God will divide us against ourselves, while the enemy comes against us from the outside.

When Judah breaks her peace agreement and rejects the miracle working pope at the Temple Mount and America supports them:  What do you think will be the reaction of the scores of millions of Muslims and Catholics in America?  Will others with racial grievances also rise up?  The fall of America will be as much internal as from any external force.

10:14 Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Betharbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.

10:15 So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.

Hosea 11

Israel was called out and delivered from Egypt, as a type of God calling people and delivering them out of bondage to sin.

Very many who were delivered out of Egypt turned away from their Deliverer to follow idols; just as very many of the spiritually called out of bondage to sin, have departed from their deliverer to follow idols of men and corporate entities.

Hosea 11:1 When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

11:2 As they called them, so they went from them: they sacrificed unto Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

God taught Ephraim [Israel] how to live righteously and Israel turned aside to idols; just as God has taught his spiritually called out to live by every Word of God and we have departed from God to follow idols of men.

11:3 I taught Ephraim also to go, taking them by their arms; but they knew not that I healed them.

God loved Israel the wife of his covenant delivering them from bondage in Egypt; and God passionately loves his beloved espoused bride spiritual Israel; delivering us from bondage to sin.

11:4 I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love [Israel was drawn by God to himself with deep love to be bound to him as his bride]: and I was to them as they that take off the yoke on their jaws [God delivered from bondage], and I laid meat unto them [fed them with the Word of God]

Israel would go into captivity by the Assyrian [modern Germany] c 721 B.C.  And again will be defeated at this time by the final manifestation of Babylon, the soon coming New Europe which will include Germany.

11:5 He shall not return into the land of Egypt, and the Assyrian shall be his king, because they refused to return.

During the 42 months of affliction violence will abide in the nations of physical Israel.  There will be riots for control of scarce food and necessities; violence as desperate folks seek to survive.

11:6 And the sword shall abide on his cities, and shall consume his branches, and devour them, because of their own counsels [Because they followed their own wicked ways and idols of men instead of following the Word of God]

Neither physical nor today’s spiritual Israel will exalt the Eternal to keep his Word.

11:7 And my people are bent to backsliding from me: though they called them to the Most High, none at all would exalt him.

Like a loving father whose heart melts and goes out to his son that he loves, at the sincere repentance of a rebuked child;  the heart of Almighty God will sorrow for us; his anger will vanish away and he will accept us when we sincerely repent.

11:8 How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

11:9 I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: and I will not enter into the city.

When God has humbled the people, he shall come to deliver all humanity from bondage to Satan and sin.  Then we shall walk after [live by] the whole Word of God.

11:10 They shall walk after the LORD: he shall roar like a lion [to deliver the repentant at his coming]: when he shall roar, then the children shall tremble from the west.

The nations shall tremble in fear and shall turn to help those they had spoiled.

11:11 They shall tremble as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria: and I will place them in their houses, saith the LORD.

At that time c 721 B.C. Judah was still faithful. This is not so today and Judah shall be afflicted with Israel, Hos 5:5 during the 42 months of “Jacob’s Trouble.”

11:12 Ephraim compasseth me about with lies, and the house of Israel with deceit: but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the saints.

Hosea 12

Did you ever try to grasp a handful of wind?  It is pointless and so is our following idols of men and their errors, and not being zealous to follow and live by every Word of God.

The spiritually called out teach falsely and have no love of the truth; therefore because we have rejected a knowledge of the truth just like physical Israel has done.

Hosea 12:1 Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind [follows empty foolishness]: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.

In c 721 B.C. only Israel was taken away by the Assyrians, but in this final tribulation both Israel and Judah shall fall together (Hos 5:5)

12:2 The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob [God will correct all Israel including Judah at this time.] according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

God calls on the descendants of Jacob [all Israel and Judah, both physical and spiritual] to remember Jacob’s zeal for and stubborn determination to serve God.

12:3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength [determination and zeal]  he had power [was respected by God] with God:

12:4 Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Bethel, and there he spake with us;

12:5 Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.

God calls on the sons of Jacob [both physical and spiritual Israel] to repent of our wicked deceitfulness and serve God

12:6 Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy God continually.

Let the nations of Israel and the Nicolaitane elders of spiritual Israel deeply and wholeheartedly repent of all our deceitfulness and bullying.

12:7 He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

We think that we are guiltless in our great pride and many sins; yet God will bring us down and humble us.

12:8 And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.

12:9 And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.

God sent many prophets to warn ancient Israel of their coming captivity which came when they were taken by Assyria c 721 B.C. and Israel rejected the prophets, the warnings and the call to repentance.  Just like physical and spiritual Israel today reject the warnings of correction and calls  to repentance being expounded from those same prophets.

12:10 I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.

Our sacrifices are meaningless because we do not repent of our wickedness in exalting the false teachings of men above any zeal to live by EVERY WORD of God.

What does it profit if the brethren fall on their knees and cry out that they repent, and then rise up to commit spiritual adultery against the Husband of their baptismal commitment by following idols of men to reject truth?

12:11 Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.

As Jacob was forced to flee because of his sin against Esau; surely in this latter day Jacob [all Israel which is full of sin, both physical and spiritual] shall face an angry retribution for our sins.

12:12 And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.

God by the prophet Moses led Israel out of physical Egypt, and by the prophet Jesus Christ the Lamb of God, God delivered those God the Father called out from bondage to sin of which physical Egypt was a type.

12:13 And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

Yet the called out of spiritual Israel have provoked God, just as physical Israel has done; by following idols of men and teaching for doctrine the commandments of men.

12:14 Ephraim provoked him [God] to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he [God] leave his blood [require correction] upon him, and his reproach shall his LORD return unto him [our evil deeds will bring reproach and correction from God].

Hosea 13

When we tremble in humility before the Eternal and exalt him alone to live by his every Word, he will exalt us; but when we chose to abandon our zeal for godliness to follow idols of men; we shall be corrected and brought low.

Hosea 13:1 When Ephraim spake trembling [before God], he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal [idolatry], he died.

The spiritual counterpart of idols of silver and gold is idols of men, pride, money and corporate organizations

13:2 And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.

Here on the coast we wake up to a layer of cloud from the sea that we call marine cloud and as the sun rises up a bit it burns off and disappears.  The wicked are like this; they exist for a moment and are gone.  There is nothing more, nothing lasting in idols or those who follow them.

13:3 Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.

13:4 Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.

13:5 I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought [Egypt the land of o rain which requires irrigation].

God delivered physical Israel from bondage in Egypt to a rich land and as they were blessed they were filled with pride and forgot the Eternal, turning from him to follow their own imaginations.

God delivered spiritual Israel from bondage to sin, and blessed them with spiritual riches and as they were blessed they were filled with pride and forgot the Eternal, turning from him to follow their own imaginations.

13:6 According to their pasture [as they were blessed and became rich], so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.

Therefore God the Almighty will withdraw his blessings from physical and spiritual Israel as he warned by Moses in Deuteronomy, and will severely correct his people. until they sincerely repent and wholehearted follow him to live by EVERY WORD of God.

13:7 Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:

13:8 I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.

13:9 O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.

13:10 I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?

13:11 I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.

13:12 The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.

A great affliction will come upon physical and spiritual Israel like the pains at the birth of a child.   Israel shall suffer dearly like a woman in labor, but like a child is born from the travail of its mother; a new Israel shall be born who is faithful to God in all their ways.

3:13 The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long [Israel shall not suffer a long time in affliction, only 42 months] in the place of the breaking forth of children.

God will deliver a repentant people.  God will also deliver the repentant of spiritual Israel from the grave in the resurrection to eternal life, and he will deliver the dead in the main harvest to physical life and their opportunity  to also be changed.

13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes [God will not ignore sincere repentance].

Yet before this victory over death Israel shall be severely corrected, his waters will be dried up in drought.

This being an allegory that Christ will reject those who have rejected him (Rev 3:15), and will cast them out; drying up the fountain of his Holy Spirit [which they have quenched] from those who have no zeal for godliness.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of truth (John 14:17, John 15:26, John 16:13, 1 John 4:6),  and these assemblies have rejected truth for their own false ways.

13:15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.

13:16 Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

Hosea 14

God calls for sincere wholehearted repentance

Hosea 14:1 O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.

14:2 Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

14:3 Asshur [Germany or any human helper] shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy [Let us abandon all of our idolatry; both idols of stone and spiritual idols of men].

In this latter day as we are afflicted, we shall repent and run to our Mighty One who alone can save.  He has afflicted our flesh to save our spirit, and he will heal us when we have learned our lesson and wholeheartedly turn to him.

Then the Eternal will greatly bless his people and ultimately all nations and peoples will be grafted into a new spiritual Israel.

14:4 I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.

14:5 I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon.

14:6 His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon.

14:7 They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn [grain], and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon.

14:8 Ephraim [physical and spiritual Israel] shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found.

14:9 Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them [shall live by every Word of God]: but the transgressors shall fall therein [shall be corrected by God’s righteous judgment].
