The Book of Colossians was written to the brethren at Colossae and to the brethren of Laodicea; it is therefore a direct message to the Church of God groups today; who are for the most part the latter day Laodiceans.

Before we start, it would be a good idea to remember that Paul was the apostle to the Gentiles. Everywhere he went; he spoke first to the Jews and was usually rejected by most of them and then went to speak to the Gentiles.

Colossians 1

Paul greets those who are faithful to follow Christ.

Colossians 1:1  Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother, 1:2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace [mercy] be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul pronounces a blessing of forgiveness and peace with God for their sincere repentance and dedicated love of God and love of keeping God’s Word;  then he lets them know that he and his companions are praying for them.

1:3 We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, 1:4 Since we heard of your faith [and the works of faith] in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,

Paul points out that they have been faithful to the truth of the way to salvation that was preached to them, and mentions that they will receive a rich spiritual reward for their diligence to learn godliness.  They are informed that Paul knows of their diligence because Epaphras has reported to Paul of their zeal and faithfulness to God.

1:5 For the hope [reward of eternal life] which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel; 1:6 Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace [mercy] of God in truth: 1:7 As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ; 1:8 Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.

Paul and his companions pray for the spiritual growth of God’s true called out to Christ; that they may be filled with the whole Word of God, and strengthened by God’s Spirit.

1:9 For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 1:10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord [live by every Word of God] unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work [Keeping the whole Word of God], and increasing in the knowledge of God; 1:11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;

Paul now begins to get into doctrine

1:12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet [called us and delivered us] to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Those who are zealous for the keeping of God’s Word are actually being zealous to keep the constitution and laws of God’s Kingdom.  Although that Kingdom has not yet come to rule over the earth, in a spiritual sense the faithful are internalizing the nature of the Head of that kingdom, God the Father, and by obeying his Word are a spiritual foretaste of God’s Kingdom.

1:14 In whom [Jesus Christ] we have redemption through his blood [sacrifice], even the forgiveness of [sincerely repented PAST]  sins:

Paul proclaims that Christ was the Creator and is a member of the family of God right under God the Father; and that Christ is the HEAD of the true Ekklesia.

1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he [Christ might be preeminent over all; under God the Father] might have the preeminence.

1:19 for it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell; 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross [ Christ’s sacrificial death], by him to reconcile all things unto himself [God the Father]; by him [by Christ], I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

Jesus Christ has atoned for all sincerely repented PAST sins, and has reconciled the repentant who commit to sin no more and to live by every Word of God; to God the Father.

1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he [Christ] reconciled [us to God the Father]

Jesus Christ the Creator God made flesh, gave up his physical life in the flesh; to die and atone for all who will stop sinning and turn to live by every Word of God.  If we therefore endure and continue in zealously keeping the whole Word of God, without any compromise or any hint of turning aside; we shall become holy as God is holy.

1:22 In the body of his flesh through death, to [Christ died so that he could present us to the Father unblameable (sinless and keeping the whole Word of God) before God the Father] present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

1:23 If ye continue in the faith [and the works of faith; which is living by every Word of God]  grounded and settled [on the sound doctrine of the whole Word of God; the apostles and prophets who wrote the scripture], and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel [not be moved away from any part of the whole Word of God which is the hope of salvation], which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Jesus, Paul and all of God’s servants, endure persecutions and afflictions so that we may rejoice over the deliverance of humanity.

1:24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his [Christ’s] body’s sake, which is the church: 1:25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;

The mystery of the plan of God for the salvation of man, both Jew and Gentile, is contained in the scriptures and has been made known to the truly called to Christ

1:26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:

The mystery of the ages is the sacrificial death of the Lamb of God for the sins of the world, AND that God will dwell in each of his people through the agency of the Holy Spirit; empowering and enabling them to live by every Word of God as Christ did.  Enabling those who follow God’s Spirit with a passionate love of the truth, to overcome and endure as Jesus Christ overcame all sin and was blameless before God the Father!

1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 1:28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 1:29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

We sinned through the breaking of God the Father’s Word which is living contrary to the nature and Spirit of God. We are reconciled to God by sincere repentance, a commitment to STOP sinning,  and the application of the sacrifice of Christ, and then being washed clean by learning and keeping the whole Word of God.

Why then would we go back into the spiritual Egypt of bondage to sin and such offenses against the nature and Spirit of God the Father, in the name of some false fantasy of our own imaginations about the nature of love, the nature of God [for God IS love]; doing what we think is right, instead of doing what God says is right?

Yes, the ways of God are the ways of love: and those ways, that love; is defined by the Law and Word of God. Therefore any compromise with any part of the Word of God is a compromise with the love and nature of God!

Watch out for the heresy which teaches tolerance for lawlessness in the name of a false concept of love, or in the name of organizational unity. Our unity is to be unity and oneness with God the Father, as Christ was united with God the Father in every way.

Jesus Christ did NOT sacrifice his unity with God the Father for organizational unity with the religious establishment of his day: and neither should we!

Jesus Christ kept all of his Father’s Word in both letter and spirit, WITHOUT COMPROMISE: If WE are to be like Christ and his Father; we MUST do likewise!

Sincere repentance and the sacrificial death of the physical body of Christ atones for our PAST sincerely repented sins and purifies us so that we can be presented to God the Father holy and blameless and beyond reproach in his sight: IF we remain in a faithful relationship with God through a passionate love that reveals itself in our zeal for all that pertains to him; including the diligently living by every Word of God: Then we will do nothing for which God will need rebuke us.

Yet, if we turn back into the bondage to sin and compromise with the Will and Word of God the Father, we shall indeed be rebuked, as those who wanted to turn back into Egypt were destroyed from before the Eternal in the wilderness.

We must STOP sinning and we must continue in the ways of God and not depart from them, nor compromise with them, even to the point of suffering and death.

Colossians 2

Colossians 2:1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict [deep concern] I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted [with God and each other], being knit together in love [which is the living by every Word of God], and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding [of the Word of God, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God [the plan of salvation], and of the Father, and of Christ; 2:3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge [The whole Word of God is the wisdom and knowledge of God] .

Let no one beguile you into sin and compromise with any part of the whole Word of God.

2:4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

As Paul was absent from Colossae at that time, he is also absent in the flesh today; but we have his written scriptures that we should be always zealous to keep live by every Word and the Will of God.

2:5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order [orderliness in pursuing godliness], and the stedfastness of your faith [and the works of faith which is the diligent keeping of every Word of God]  in Christ.

If we have sincerely repented and made a baptismal commitment to sin no more; we will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit,  and we are to live as Christ lived through the strength of Jesus Christ living in us.

2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

1 John 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk [live], even as he walked [lived and lives].

Stay fully grounded on the sound doctrine of Every Word of God and let no person deceive you into compromising with any part of the whole Word of God.

Contend earnestly for the Scriptures as admonished by Jude and never compromise with the Sabbath or any part of the Word of God.  Jesus will not blink at a little willful sin, he will cast the sinner out of God the Father’s temple!  And we should love God the Father and Christ so much, that any willful sin would be disgustingly repellent to us.

Let no one spoil [plunder and gain control over us] us by enticing us to cook, travel or buy food or anything else on God’s Sabbath and Holy Days, or to lead us into minimizing and compromising with any part of the Word of God.  Let no one entice us to reject God’s Biblical Calendar for the apostate Rabbinic Calendar.  Let no man entice us to tolerate any sin; and do prove all things by the scripture.

Beware of those who use the name of Christ to teach us to tolerate sin, saying that Christ died for us and we no longer need to be zealous to live by every Word of God.

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil [make plunder of you, and overcome you] you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

2:9 For in him [Jesus Christ] dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

For we are spiritually circumcised with the removal of our PAST sins and the old sinful man was destroyed in the watery grave of baptism; that we should rise up new people in Christ being passionate to live by every Word of God in Christ-like zeal.

Then IF we are diligent to learn, to grow and to overcome through the power of Christ dwelling in us by the Holy Spirit, we shall be raised up from the grave incorruptible as Jesus Christ was raised up incorruptible.

2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

We the wicked, have been reconciled to God the Father and cleansed of our PAST sins by sincere repentance and the application of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ, if we  commit to go forward and sin no more.

We who faced eternal death for our sins have been saved to a resurrection to eternal life by the mercy of God the Father and Jesus Christ.

2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he [the Father]  quickened [made spiritually alive] together with him [Christ], having forgiven you all trespasses [through our sincere repentance and the application of the sacrifice of Christ];

God the Father erased the indictment against us, He erased the list of our past sins; by our sincere repentance and the application of the sacrifice of Christ.

In no way does Christ’s sacrifice do away with the law of sacrifice, rather it fulfills that law; by offering a PERFECT sacrifice for sincerely repented PAST sins; obligating us to go forward and sin no more.  For if we seek the application of Christ’s sacrifice an dthen continue in sin, we make a mockery of that sacrifice and have not truly repented at all.

Hebrews 10:26  For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, 10:27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

10:28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: 10:29 Of how much sorer [greater] punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God [by continuing in sin], and hath counted the blood of the [the sacrifice of the New Covenant Jesus Christ the Lamb of God] covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing [asking for its application without real repentance], and hath done despite [has been contemptuous of Christ’s sacrifice and  God’s mercy, by continuing in sin]  unto the Spirit of grace?

Colossians 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

The ordinances which were against us was the indictment – the list of our sins for which we faced ternal death – which list is paid in full with our sincere repentance and the application the sacrifice of the Lamb of God top us.   The list of our sins, the indictment against us; was paid in full by the death of Christ for the sincerely repentant.

Jesus Christ through his perfect sinless life and his willingness to obey the Father to the death, was worthy to be given all power in the universe [under God the Father]

2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

Therefore we are to keep God’s Sabbaths, New Moons and Holy Days, and we may eat scripturally clean meats and we are to be diligent to avoid  unclean things; which teaches us to put a difference between the holy and the profane.  We are to live by all things which are in the Word of God, and we are not to permit any person to criticize us and turn us away from living by every Word of God.

The reference to meat and drink is a direct reference to the asceticism, vegetarianism and teetotaler teachings of the Stoics, as the traditions of men which might appear humble but are really self willed.

True humility is faithfulness is to submit to and live by every Word of God in deeds [the works of faith] and not mere appearances.

Every Word of God is  commanded to be kept and the physical has its spiritual counterpart; therefore without living by every Word of God, we cannot understand spiritual things.

This is why there is so little understanding, because we do not keep the Sabbath, Holy Days and New Moons on the dates proscribed by the Word of God, and we do not keep them in the way that God’s Word commands.

2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [the complete scriptures, including these things; define Christ and God the Father] is of Christ.

Let no person deceive you with an appearance of humility while really being full of pride, teaching their own errors and teaching to keep the false traditions of men instead of exalting the Head of the body, Jesus Christ.

2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility [with a mere appearance of humility] and worshipping of angels [spirits, messengers, pastors, teachers], intruding into those things which he hath not seen [teaching error contrary to the scriptures], vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind [full of pride and their own false ways], 2:19 And not holding the Head [Not exalting God the Father and Jesus Christ, but using the name of Christ to lead people away from Christ to follow after themselves and their own false traditions and false ways (Mat 24), from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment  [Spiritual food, the Bread of Life, the whole Word of God] ministered, and knit together [with God and Christ], increaseth with the increase of [we produce godly fruit as we increase in the knowledge of God and the works of faith, not from following men contrary to the Word of God] God.

Now speaking of the teachings of the Stoics, popular in Greece. If the PAST sinful person is now dead to sin, why do we still follow worldly things?

This is speaking of the teachings of men which appear humanly humble and wise but are not consistent with the Word of God.

2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not; 2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? 2:23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body: not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

Do not worship, that is do not follow and obey any man or spirit, who teaches you to break or to compromise with any part of the Word of God. Do not let anyone beguile you or entice you to follow them and the false contrary to scripture traditions of men,  by putting on a show of supposed humility and using clever arguments.

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Do not let anyone entice you into following men or spirits  by the clever arguments of men which are not the sound doctrine of the scriptures.

Do not be deceived by people who are trying to deceive you with clever reasoning’s about things which they do not understand themselves. Do not be deceived by people who are putting up a pretense of humility and godliness and trying to teach you things which they know nothing about. Deceitful persons vainly puffed up in their own fleshly minds and not being consisted with the Word of Truth.

Don’t let these puffed up charlatans, who may APPEAR humble; entice you into sinning against God, by leading you into compromising with any part of the Word of God.

These seducers, these false teachers; do not hold Jesus Christ as their Head, but rather they try to be the mediator between men and God themselves. They try to come between people and God and they try to be the Head themselves in the eyes of the people. They USE the name of Christ to deceive people away from the doctrines of Christ.

How can we resist this effort to steal our crowns and the birthright of our calling?

Satan tries to confuse the issues, while they are actually very simple. All kingdoms are based on a constitution and a set of laws. Always keep God’s Word and do all God’s Will zealously, out of a passionate love for God the Father and his Word, without any hint of compromise.

The whole Word of God is the foundation that NO man can ever shake.

False teachers try to appear like some great, humble and Godly person, so that they can entice you and distract you away from the doctrines of God and Jesus Christ.

If we stand on the Word of God, the will of God, the things of God; then we have a defense against the false doctrines and false traditions of men.

Colossians 3

Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen [risen from the waters of baptism into Christ] with Christ, seek those things which are above [seek godly things and not to worldly things], where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God [the Father]. 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth [seek spiritual things and not fixate on physical things]3:3 For ye [your PAST sinful person is dead in repentance and baptism] are dead, and your life is hid [the new person is to be at one in full unity with God] with Christ in God.

Our new life is to be a Christ-like life so that when he comes we shall be changed to a glorified spirit body and live forever through the sacrifice and salvation of Christ and the mercy of God the Father.

3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

3:5 Mortify [kill, destroy] therefore your [your PAST wicked person:  STOP sinning and going contrary to any part of the whole Word of God] members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection [unlawful affections], evil concupiscence [mentally fantasizing about doing wickedness and evil], and covetousness [placing personal desires above God’s Word], which is idolatry: 3:6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

Today the spiritual Ekklesia are the children of disobedience to God, being FULL of idolatry and spiritual adultery as they make idols of men and false traditions; breaking God’s Word to please men.

We are supposed to have sincerely repented of our idolatry and wickedness, and instead we have gone back into spiritual adultery by loving men and false traditions more than we love God; and following men instead of proving men and being zealous to learn and live by every Word of God.

Just like the Mosaic Pharisees, today’s spiritual Ekklesia teach the doctrines of men, following idols of men, contrary to the Word of God.

Today the Sabbath and High Days are called holy and then continually polluted, and in very many other things we defy God’s Word to follow the doctrines [teachings] of men.

Matthew 15:7   Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

15:9  But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Colossians 3:7 In the which [we have all sinned yet we are supposed to have repented and to have STOPPED sinning] ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication [which is far more than gutter talk, and is any false teaching that leads us away from our zeal to live by every Word of God] out of your mouth.

3:9 Lie [do not teach any false thing] not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man [repented of and put off sin] with his deeds;

3:10 And have put on the new man [become a new person with Christ dwelling is us, that we may be godly as Jesus Christ was and is godly], which is renewed in knowledge [knowledge of godliness and the whole Word of God through the Spirit of Christ dwelling in us] after the image of him [Christ] that created him [us]:

All those who are one in mind and spirit with God the Father and Jesus Christ; are a new and holy people, made one in Christ: and if we are in full unity with God; we are not many nations, but ONE nation and one godly people!

1 Peter 2:9   But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises [be a Shining Light of godly example] of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Godly people are to put away all wickedness and live as Christ lived; being bold and strong to warn and to rebuke all sin as Christ and Paul did, and being quick to forgive even those who hate and persecute us.

3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 3:14 And above all these things put on charity [Godly agape love], which is the bond of perfectness.

We are to be at peace with God through living by ALL of God’s Word, doing God’s Will and doing all those things that please our heavenly Father and our eternal Husband and High Priest, Jesus Christ.  By being at peace with God,  the peace of God [the Word of God] will dwell in our hearts.

Jeremiah 31:33   But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

When our hearts are full of God, we will be continually thinking on godly things and will bubble over with joy and singing about God and our love for God.

Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

All that we do should be consistent with every Word of God, and should be a Shining Light of godly example for all to see.

3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Some instructions in godliness:  wives are to submit to their husbands as an example that we are all to submit to our Husband Jesus Christ.  Husbands are never to bully their wives but to love them and give themselves for them, as Christ lived for and gave his life for his bride.

3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.

Children are to obey their parents in the Lord, as we are all the children of God and are all to obey God our Father in heaven for our own good.  Parents are to lead their children wisely, teaching them godliness by word, deed and by example, with discipline only after much patient guidance, treating our own children just as our heavenly Father treats us.

3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

Obey God and those in authority over us; honestly, wholeheartedly; and not with mere lip service and eye service.

3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God; 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

Those who do well, will receive their reward; and those who sin willfully, will receive their correction and if unrepentant, they will go to destruction.

3:25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.

Colossians 4

Pay what you honestly owe before making offerings or spending extravagantly, and pay your servants [hired help] promptly.  It is a SIN to give large Festival offerings when your family is in desperate need or when you have unpaid debts to go home to.

Mark 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

7:10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

7:11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, [an offering] by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

7:12 And ye suffer [permit him to give the offering and neglect his family] him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Brethren, such wickedness abounds in today’s spiritually called out Ekklesia:  We give and give to our corporate entities while neglecting our responsibilities to our families and our debtors.  This is a great SIN in the brotherhood!

Colossians 4:1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

Pray, and be in constant mental contact with God by thinking on the things of God.

4:2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

I echo Paul in also asking for your prayers for me according to Paul’s request.

4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4:4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

Be careful how you interrelate with those who lack the light that guides us; maintain your godliness, and give an answer to their questions, but do not engage in pointless strife.

4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

The message is being sent by Tychicus, and Onesimus who also carried the letter to Philemon.

4:7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord: 4:8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts; 4:9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.

4:10 Aristarchus my fellowprisoner [in Rome] saluteth you, and Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;) 4:11 And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.

4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. 4:13 For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.

4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.

4:15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. 4:16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.

4:17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

4:18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you; Amen
