The United States, Germany, Britain and France have requested a UN Security Council meeting over Iran’s recent missile test.
Iran’s tests of ballistic missiles earlier this month were in no way in violation of the P5+1 nuclear deal said the US State Department immediately after the tests. At that time the US also agreed that the missiles were not designed to carry nuclear warheads. Yet today, the US is claiming that Iran’s test was in violation of the UN Security Council resolution.
The language of the US letter, backed by Britain, France, and Germany, appears to assert that any advances in missile technology, even for conventional missiles, must be “inherently” illegal for Iran to make, by virtue of a ban on nuclear weapons. That position is highly contentious even within the US administration and is a non starter at the UN unless some kind of back room deal is being made. .

Sewage from the Gaza Strip has recently disabled the desalination plant in Ashkelon, one of the main sources of water in Israel, Yedioth reported. [It is unclear why this is not on the front page of all the papers. – OH] The reason it was disabled, Yedioth reported, was because Israel won’t supply electricity to the sewage purification plant in Gaza. The Israeli Energy Ministry claimed it only became aware of the issue in recent days, but it turns out that the Israel Electricity Corp transferred the information to the Ministry already in 2013.
[Moreover, JPost reported in November that “The 1.8 million Gaza Palestinians have almost completely run out of clean drinking water. There is not enough electricity to run the sewage treatment plant, which means too much water is being pumped from the Gaza aquifer, resulting in seepage from the Mediterranean. Not only does raw sewage pollute Israel’s waters, the lack of drinking water creates a humanitarian time bomb waiting to explode.” ] The modern Gaza purification plant was built by the EU and completed last year but has not begun operating yet because of the lack of electricity.
Israel has been ignoring since 2013 the repeated Palestinian requests to the Israeli Electricity Corp to connect the plant to electricity (with a dedicated line) and they also rejected other solutions, Yedioth’s Elior Levy and Amir Ben-David wrote. As a result, tens of thousands of cubic meters of sewage continue to dump daily into the sea, some of which reaches the adjacent beaches of Ashkelon and the area of the Israeli desalination plant.
A month ago, the plant had to stop operating twice because of high pollution levels. Fecal coli and other bacteria were found in the water and the plant had to halve the amount of water it supplies to the Israeli water system. Now it has stopped working altogether.
The Water Authority said this was a ‘real threat’ to the water supply from the plant because the pollution from Gaza is expected to increase. “It’s a little unnecessary to invest billions in preventing the flow of sewage to Ashkelon and to remain indifferent to the flow of sewage from Gaza,” Israel’s Environment Minister Avi Gabai said. “Unlike other issues, the environmental hazards harm both sides and won’t be treated without cooperation,” said Gidon Bromberg, CEO of EcoPeace, an organization working to solve the pollution problem.

Gen. Austin went on to say that his people have done analysis on how many more troops were needed and had made recommendations to the White House, but declined to tell the committee exactly how many more troops this would entail.

Inshallah [God willing], we will attack you very soon.” The narrator of the video also mentioned the attack on Paris last November and said US President Obama could expect the same “treatment.” Like previous ISIS videos, the one released on Tuesday ends wth the decapitation of a Syrian prisoner. US President Barack Obama’s administration is considering a United Nations Security Council resolution to serve as a blueprint for Israeli-Palestinian talks, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday. The US has repeatedly vetoed such resolutions in the past. Additional elements being discussed include a presidential speech and joint statement from the Quartet. The Palestinians and EU have already agreed: “the US would push Israel to halt construction of settlements in the Palestinian territories and recognize certain Palestinian villages in East Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state: See Jan 21 report. Palestinians would in turn be asked to recognize Israel as a Jewish state and end claims on a right of return for Palestinian refugees.” That scenario would entail establishing two states based on the 1949 armistice lines, with land swaps to reflect population changes since then.

Russia proposes dividing Syria into autonomous regions under a weak central government. This has been the Israeli American plan and goal for Iraq and Syria all along. The end game of the Israeli, American sponsored so called Arab Spring and wars on Syria and Iraq is to balkanize those nations, allowing America and Israel to dominate the region for the foreseeable future. So far the Brookings Institute plan has been closely followed and next on the list of nations to be similarly dealt with is Iran.
