31 AUG: As NAZI Svoboda party members protested, the Ukraine parliament approved first reading of a law to grant limited autonomy to eastern separatists areas but does not include major parts of the region. The bill which does not meet Ukraine’s ceasefire promises must still pass a second and third reading and be signed by the president.
The bill only authorizes a possible Special Status and the actual Special Status must still be defined by another law which the president is against. See the 30 Aug post.
Organizers put the number of demonstrators at 120,000 as people took to the streets in front of Japan’s parliament where a controversial bill to allow Japanese military to be deployed outside of japan is being debated in the Upper House. Abe’s efforts have been backed by the United States, ironically the same nation that imposed the restrictions on Japan after WW2 in the first place, with officials hoping that, like Britain, Japan could become a sidekick nation in America’s various military adventures.
Egypt will hold its long-awaited parliamentary elections in two stages in October and November, the country’s electoral committee announced on Sunday.
Ayman Abbas, head of Egypt’s Supreme Election Committee, said 14 administrative regions will vote on Oct. 17 and 18, while the 13 remaining regions, including Cairo, will vote on Nov. 21 and 22, the BBC reports. The first phase of the elections had previously been scheduled for March.
30 AUG: Massive natural gas find in Egypt. Italian energy group Eni announced on Sunday it had discovered potentially one of the world’s largest natural-gas fields off the Egyptian coast, predicting that the find could help meet Egypt’s gas needs for decades to come.
“According to the well and geophysical data available, the field could hold a potential of 30 trillion cubic feet of lean gas in place,” Eni said in a statement. The Zohr discovery well was located at a depth of 1,450 metres (4,757 feet).
A quantity of the Turkish air force has been fully integrated into the anti Islamic State military force. From Friday evening coalition attacks inside Syria included Turkish planes. This is not the start of an offensive but the testing out of the integration in practical terms.
In July, lawmakers in the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada passed amendments granting special status to the country’s war-torn eastern regions. Now Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko has announced that there would be more changes made to the country’s constitution, which would exclude “special status” norms for separate Ukrainian areas, including those in the Don Basin region. “We will remove Article 92 of the Constitution which provides for ‘special status.’
Other Ukrainian regions have expressed the intention “to use this new norm,” to demand Special Status as well, thereby balkanizing the country.

28 AUG: The Islamic State has taken over the area of Syria proclaimed a Safe Zone by Turkey and the US led anti IS coalition. The Al Nusrah Front had evacuated the area at the request of the allies, and as they left, the Islamic State moved in. This sets up the IS for a soon coming massive aerial bombardment of the Safe Haven.
Large concentrated IS forces drawn into the small declared border zone to protect IS access to Turkey are now facing annihilation in a devastating air campaign to be followed by an allied offensive into the zone.
This coalition offensive could come soon, however the situation is complicated by the Nov 1 Turkish elections and the Turkey Kurdish situation. The coalition offensive into Syria, when it does come; is expected to be coordinated with the long expected Iraqi assault in Anbar province.

Coming out of the Iran nuclear deal the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) signed a deal with Kazakhstan according to which the agency will establish an enriched uranium bank for nuclear power on Kazakhstani soil. The facility, which will be ready in 2017, will provide IAEA member states with steady and fixed amounts of fuel controlled by the IAEA.
Iran never had a nuclear weapons program and was not able to enrich uranium more than 6%, far less than the 93% or more needed for nuclear weapons. The whole anti Iran nuclear effort was for the purpose of placing all nuclear fuel production under an international control as per the Establishment agenda for world government.
26 AUG: CAIRO – The Arab League has postponed a meeting of defense ministers to ratify a protocol for a new joint military force to intervene in regional hot spots. The Cairo-based organization anno0unced in a Wednesday press statement that members requested the meeting be postponed included Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq. The Arab League said members will decide later on a new date for the meeting, which was originally scheduled for Thursday. The object of the alliance is mainly to deal with the situation in Libya and Yemen, Some members support different Libyan militias and that issue needs to be worked out.
25 AUG: Turkey and the United States will soon launch “comprehensive” air operations to flush Islamic State fighters from a zone in northern Syria bordering Turkey, Detailed talks between Washington and Ankara on the plans were completed on Sunday and regional allies including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Jordan as well as Britain and France.
Monday China’s stock market plunged with the Shanghai composite index dropping 8,5% in the biggest selloff since 2007. Today the China markets lost another 7%.

23 AUG: After South Korea shelled the North last week high level talks began on Sabbath over the shelling and propaganda broadcasts by the South. Following the South’s attacks about 70 percent of the North’s 77 submarines had left their bases and were undetectable by the South Korean military as of Saturday. The official also says the North had doubled the strength of its front-line artillery forces since the start of the high-level talks early Saturday evening. It is to be remembered that despite all the Western propaganda the Korean war began with the South shelling the North and the North responding.

20 AUG: 16:00 EDT: Islamic Jihad is vehemently denying it fired any rockets, while Israel is using the situation to pound the Syrian army which is resisting the Western trained insurgent attacks on the elected government on and near the Golan.
This appears to be a put up job by the Western backed rebels to give Israel an excuse to back them up by attacking Syria. In refrence to todays retaliatory strikes the IDF officer said, “We attacked several kilometers into Syria, 5 or 6 sites with multiple targets within each site.

13:30 EDT: Rocket alerts are now sounding in the south near Gaza.
13:24 EDT: Israel responded immediately with artillery fire into Syria and Israeli air strikes have begun in Syria.
Thirty minutes after the Golan alert four rockets fired from Syria struck the Israeli Golan. Two rockets exploded in the Galilee “Panhandle,” the Huleh Valley and two on the Golan. They started fires in kibbutz fields and orchards. A red alert sent people living in the area into shelters. This was a deliberately aimed salvo from the Iran backed Islamic Jihad over the hunger striking Israeli prisoner, and not stray shots from Syrian fighting.
BREAKING 13:00 EDT: Israelis living on the western slopes of the Golan have just been told to seek shelter from an unspecified danger from across the northern borders. The warning alert was circulated to Gonen, Kfar Szold, Lahavot Habashan, Neot Mordecai and the Huleh Valley.
The Palestinian hunger striker being held without charge, Mohammed Allaan, has severe brain damage and has slipped back into a coma.

19 AUG: Russia sends 6 MIG 31’s to Syria matching the 6 F16’s the US sent to Turkey. A Russian airlift of arms to Damascus which began Monday with the delivery of 1,000 Kornet-9M133 anti-tank guided missiles, continued Wednesday with a delivery by An-124 transports of heavy Russian M-46 MM1954 130 towed field guns with range of up to 16 Miles. This is part of an agreement to fight the Islamic State resulting from the Iran nuclear deal.
NATO exercise launched in Europe. Nearly 5,000 soldiers from 11 NATO allies are taking part in four weeks of “simultaneous multinational airborne operations” across Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and Romania that began Saturday, the US army said in a statement, describing “Swift Response 15” as the largest Allied airborne training event on the continent since the end of the Cold War. No reference was made to the war in Ukraine where fighting has escalated in recent days. On Aug. 26, allied warplanes will drop more than 1,000 paratroopers and equipment onto the Hohenfels training area in Germany.

Israel is asking for an expansion of a scheduled massive Israeli-American military exercise tentatively scheduled for May 2016. The exercise will already include thousands of American troops to Israel and Europe along with deployment of US air defense systems including the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD). The US military will direct missile defenses including the THAAD, US Patriot batteries to be deployed in Israel and Aegis air defense ships from command centers in Europe.
The JC16 – a biannual joint air and missile defense drill – is already currently slated to be much larger than the last drill, which took place in May 2014.
The Islamic State is being accused of using chemical weapons. The German military claims a possible chemical weapons attack on Kurdish Peshmerga soldiers fighting the Islamic State group (ISIS) in northern Iraq. A US official said this was “plausible.” A group of Western experts has arrived to take samples after a Tuesday night mortar attack on Kurdish positions in Makhmur, 35 km southwest of the capital, Irbil, following claims that the rounds were loaded with chemicals, possibly mustard gas or chlorine.
Palestinian detainee Mohammed Allan, who has been on a hunger strike for nearly 60 days and is now hospitalized at the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, has lost consciousness on Friday morning. 11 AUG: A large military contingent crossed into northern Syria from Turkey early Tuesday, The anti Assad fighters were armed with tanks and artillery, and supported by Turkish fighter jet air cover.
They entered an area of Syria near Idlib and Aleppo far west of the Islamic State and appear to be establishing safe havens for anti Assad forces, not fighting against the Islamic State. The Al Nusrah Front has evacuated the area north of Aleppo making way for the incoming Turkey backed force.
In response at the last minute, Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif called off his visit to Ankara that was scheduled for Tuesday.
A heavy skirmish took place in Ukraine near the village of Starohnativka, north of Mariupol.
A new press release from United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), one of the many Sheldon Adelson-funded lobbying groups trying to kill the Iran nuclear deal, hyped the appointment of former Sen. Joe Lieberman to an unspecified “leadership role” in the group. Lieberman has recently been appointed to lucrative key roles at a number of these lobbies.
Buried within the release, however, is a much more interesting story. UANI’s President Gary Samore, who has served in that role since September 2013, has announced his resignation from the post, because while UANI is lobbying against the deal, Samore now supports the deal. 06 AUG: Today is the 70th anniversary of the Hiroshima Atomic Bombing. Japan had already surrendered in March 1945 which surrender was not accepted until after the demonstration bombing for Stalin to make sure the Russian armies would stay in their designated area in Europe when they were quite able to overrun all of Europe in a matter of weeks.

Turkish warplanes continue to pound Kurdish areas in the southeastern Hakkari Province today, hammering mountainous areas which are used as a base of operations for the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK),
Israeli Budget: Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri and Minister David Azoulay boycotted the government’s meeting on the State budget. It was earlier (Wednesday) reported that talks between Deri and the heads of the Finance Ministry resulted in a stalemate.
In addition members of the Jewish Home party are saying that the Finance Ministry is insisting on billions of shekels worth of cutbacks in the education budget. The sources say that if the matter is not resolved, the Jewish Home ministers will vote against the budget. “The cutbacks will critically hurt preschool education, peripheral communities, and mathematics studies,” sources within the party said.
US aircraft and drones are arriving at Turkish air bases and a comprehensive battle against Islamic State militants will be launched soon, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Wednesday.
Turkey formally approved the use of its air bases by US and coalition aircraft in the fight against Islamic State late last month.
“As part of our agreement with the US we have made progress regarding the opening up of our bases, particularly Incirlik,” Cavusoglu told state broadcaster TRT.
“We’re seeing that manned and unmanned American planes are arriving and soon we will launch a comprehensive battle against Islamic State all together,” he said during a trip to Malaysia.
Soon does not mean immediately, and the assault preparations may be tied to the moderating of the extreme heat this summer [peaking at 160 degrees F].

04 AUG: Saudi Arabia and UAE begin invasion of Yemen with Egyptian support, landing two armored brigades and several commando battalions at Aden this morning. Tonight all roads heading north out of Aden are clogged with convoys of heavy Saudi Abraham M1 tanks and long lines of heavy French made Leclerc tanks contributed by the UAE army, are advancing on Taiz Yemen’s second largest city.
After repairing the Aden airport, large crews of workers are now preparing Al-Anad, Yemen’s biggest airport 48 km north of Aden, for Saudi and UAE fighter-bombers to take off for air strikes.
Meanwhile cargo planes have been landing at the Aden airport with hundreds of armored personnel carriers, some of them Russian-made BMD3s, others Humvees made in America – and all fitted with short-range ground-to-ground missiles – as well dozens of US-made mine-resistant, ambush protected (MRAP) vehicles designed to withstand roadside bombs were freighted in by air.

03 AUG: The United States has decided to provide air cover for Syrian rebels trained by the US military from any attackers, including Syrian government forces, rival groups and the Islamic State. The decision by President Barack Obama to join Turkey in enforcing the recently declared “no fly” buffer zone along the Turkish border, is a prelude to the US backed insurgents entering Syria from Turkey.
In addition Obama has authorized the use of American air power to defend the US backed rebels anywhere inside Syria. This amounts to US air support for rebel activities anywhere inside Syria. These decisions are open acts of war by the United States.
02 AUG: The Turkish president is working to defeat and remove from parliament the HDP ultra liberal and Kurdish party which won the over 10% of the vote needed to enter parliament in the last election.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has announced a joint meeting Sunday with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir during a 48-hour visit to the Qatari capital, Doha. Kerry will be coming from Cairo where he had discussed regional security. The Doha talks will focus on the Islamic State and the fate of the Syrian regime.
01 AUG: TURKEY UPDATE: On Friday, 28 Turkish F-16s destroyed 65 targets of the PKK including shelters and arms depots, following the heaviest air strikes the day before, when 80 Turkish aircraft hit 100 PKK targets, Turkish F-16 jets carried out more air strikes Saturday morning.
Pressure is mounting on the PKK as the Iraqi Kurds are now demanding that the PKK withdraw from Iraq. The office of the Kurdish region’s president Massud Barzani said in a statement Saturday that the PKK rebels need to move out of the region.
Two rockets fired from the Gaza Strip fell in the border fence area in the northern strip late Saturday night after Hamas called for attacks on Israel in the wake the terrorist fire bomb attack on two Palestinian houses killing an infant and critically injuring its parents and brother; and the killing of at least three other Palestinians in the past week. Law enforcement has begun searching to see whether any projectiles fell in Israeli territory. No sirens were sounded.
Over 100 coalition air strikes have hit the Islamic State in Ramadi as the Iraqi forces are cutting off the city and strangling it. American military officials now promise a decisive offensive to liberate the city by the end of September.
The Islamic State territory is slowly shrinking. Although after a year of airstrikes the IS is actually stronger due to heavy numbers of people volunteering.
NATO has stepped into the Islamic State war in Iraq by agreeing to retrain the Iraqi forces, NATO has announced today that it has agreed to an Iraqi military request to launch a new program to help retrain the nation’s military, and to help it “reform” its entire security sector.
The NATO training program will be conducted in Turkey and Jordan and will be in addition to the American / Coalition training efforts.
