Tzitzit Fringes

We are told in the scriptures that those who the Father calls to the Son, may enter a New Covenant through wholehearted repentance form sin [rebelling against the word of God] and a baptismal washing away of past sin and a commitment to sin no more.

If we have been Called Out by the Father and have responded positively to that call with sincere repentance of breaking the word of God and if we commit to sin no more in baptism; then the Eternal will write his law on our hearts and in our minds.

The Father has indeed been Calling Out many over the past six thousand years, and will yet extend this New Covenant to all Israel and to all flesh by grafting all flesh into a spiritual Israel.

Jer 31:31    Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Is the inscribing of the word and law of God on our hearts and in our minds an instantaneous thing?  NO!

The Father sends the spirit of the Father and Christ, to dwell in the sincerely repentant to lead them into all truth.

John 16:13   Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

It Is the spirit of God which leads us into the truth of God, which is the whole word of God.

John 17:17   Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

At baptism we committed ourselves to STOP sinning!  How do we do that?

We must continually GROW in LEARNING  and in KEEPING the whole word of God, and we must follow the spirit of truth as it leads us into an understanding of the word of God!

We can only keep our baptismal New Covenant with Christ by continually striving to learn the ways of God and to continually repent and turn from past error!

The church of God today has stopped doing this; they have stopped growing in the word of God; and have instead rejected any growth in truth; proudly thinking that they have the truth and no one can tell them anything.  We have become proud and filled with self importance and self exulting; which is the enemy of spiritual growth and we do not realize how spiritually wretched we really are.

We have STOPPED following the spirit of God into am enthusiastic zeal for the commandments of God, and have quenched the spirit of true faithful zeal for the whole word of God;  Therefore the word of God is no longer being written on our hearts!

We will NOT allow God to write his commandments on our hearts, because we think that we know better than the word of God, making God’s commandments of no effect by our traditions.

Those who have fallen into this state will be corrected so that they may be saved.

Those with a zeal for the whole word of God, will have his commandments and word written on their hearts and their minds will be filled with the spirit of God.

In Mosaic Israel, except for a very few; the people of the Mosaic Covenant did not have the spirit of God dwelling within them; therefore God gave them a physical symbol to remind them of the commandments.

The giving of this symbol begins with the admonition that any person who does presumptuously and is not obedient to the whole word of God has sinned and will die.  This was true physically in the Mosaic Covenant and it is true in the New Covenant as well.

Heb 10:26   For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

If those who did not have God’s spirit were destroyed for breaking the law; how much more shall those who do have God’s spirit and therefore have NO EXCUSE be destroyed for breaking the commandments of God as the COG Groups wantonly do today?

Num  15:30 But the soul that doeth ought presumptuously, whether he be born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproacheth the LORD; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 15:31 Because he hath despised the word of the LORD, and hath broken his commandment, that soul shall utterly be cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.

The words, fringe or tassel, are from the Hebrew Tzitzit and this is the story of the Tzitzit command in Israel.

A man was found polluting the Sabbath as is very common in the church of God today.   While this man gathered firewood, today we pollute the Sabbath by paying others to cook and serve us in restaurants and in many other ways.

15:32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the sabbath day.  15:33 And they that found him gathering sticks brought him unto Moses and Aaron, and unto all the congregation.  15:34 And they put him in ward, because it was not declared what should be done to him.

15:35 And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones without the camp. 15:36 And all the congregation brought him without the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as the LORD commanded Moses.

Because this man had not been zealous for the law of God and had forgotten and polluted the Sabbath day; as we also have forgotten and call the Sabbath holy only to openly pollute it; this man was made to die for his sin.  And most assuredly we shall also die for our sin if we do not repent in wholehearted sincerity.

Therefore a merciful God gave Israel a sign that they might look to it and remember the law of God.

Israel was  given a ribbon of royal blue representing the holy spirit which whould be given in the New Covenant.

This royal blue fringe  was representative of the holy spirit that will in the New Covenant, be given to lead them into the whole truth of God.

A modern example of a Karaite Tzitzit

God commanded only a ribbon of blue on the corners of the garments; this intricate braid is conceived by men.

Because people in the west no longer wear the same kind of clothes as were worn in the ancient Middle East; this is a kind of belt worn around the trousers instead of a blue ribbon at each of the four corners of a square mantle.

To our great sorrow and the great sorrow of Israel; they still continually turned and rebelled against God and did not look to tis reminder of the law of their God.  All the history of their many rebellions and overspreading if iniquities has been recorded for our instruction, that we might learn from their example to seek out and learn the whole word of God to keep it in enthusiastic zeal.

Yet we, in spite of having this record for our enlightenment and in spite of having the holy spirit of God; have also rebelled and turned away form zeal to learn and keep the commandments of God.  We shall therefore be corrected in bitter tribulation that we might learn to follow the Lamb withersoever he goeth and not to follow our idols of men away from zeal to learn and keep the word of God.

After the man forgot the Sabbath and gathered firewood polluting the Sabbath that he must be killed; God then gave the people a reminder that if they looked upon it they would be reminded of the commandments of God and if they do them they should live in them.

Today the Called Out  have been given a different reminder, which is the holy spirit of Christ; and the completed whole word of God.

15:37 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 15:38 Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations, and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribband of blue:

This is commanded of all Israel, which includes BOTH men and women.  It is a commandment to be observed throughout their generations [as long as the Mosaic Covenant lasted].  The Mosaic Covenant ended with the death of the Husband of Israel, Jesus Christ.

Yes, Jesus wore the Tzitzit  even though he was filled with the holy spirit, in order to keep the Mosaic Covenant  perfectly; because he had not yet died ending the Mosaic Covenant, and had not yet been resurrected to become the High Priest of a New and better Covenant.

The fringe represents the gift of the holy spirit, and  I would not insist that the blue fringe is essential today, if we are already in the New Covenant and already have God’s spirit.

However the fringe is certainly lawful and desirable.  It is highly likely that this will be required like circumcision, in the coming Kingdom of God and  I would never object to anyone who choses to wear one.

15:39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye seek not after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go a whoring: 15:40 That ye may remember, and do all my commandments, and be holy unto your God.

15:41 I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: I am the LORD your God.

Deu 22:12 repeats this commandment in a very general way.

Deu 22:12 Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.

While the Karaites carry out this practice by placing a blue string on their Tzitzit, the Rabbans ignore this commandment by only using white strings.

The Rabbinic reason for abandoning the commandment to place a blue string on the Tzitzit is that the dye needed for the blue has been lost.  However, Karaites point out that the Torah does not state which dye must be used to create the blue strings.  Any dye that produces the color blue is sufficient.

We are now to look to the completed word of God and follow the lead of God’s holy spirit; we have the duty, the responsibility, the mission, and the absolute obligation; to diligently learn and keep the whole word of God.

The physical Tzitzit has been superseded by the holy spirit which it represents.
