John 12 provides some immediate background to the final Passover of Christ in the flesh.
Notice that this anointing took place six days before Passover, and since Passover was on a Wednesday we can count back six days, Tues, Mon, Sun, Sat, Fri, Thurs.
This dinner at which the woman anointed the feet of Jesus was on the day that we would call Thursday, and being soon after the raising of Lazarus was a time of great rejoicing. Mary moved by the resurrection of her brother anoints Christ’s feet in awe and deep gratitude.
John 12:1 Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.
Mary [Lazarus and Martha’s sister] Anoints Christ’s feet. Jesus was very close to this family of Lazarus, Mary and Martha.
12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him. 12:3 Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
Judas identified after the fact as a thief
12:4 Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him, 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor? 12:6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.
Judas reveals his wrong attitude that he had become a disciple because he was seeking personal gain, like many leaders today. A pointed lesson for us as we must also choose between Christ and our own perceived personal advantage.
12:7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. 12:8 For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always.
Jesus rebukes him, for he would not allow anyone to criticize Mary for her deep gratitude and loving service to him. This must have infuriated Judas.
12:9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
While the religious leaders of the day sought to kill Jesus, the people knew that Lazarus had been completely dead for three whole days, and wanted to see Lazarus back alive and to see the Lord who had called him forth.
Can you see how this is building towards Christ’s entrance into Jerusalem and the welcoming of the crowds; who shouted out “Our Salvation; and “Save Us?”
12:10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; 12:11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
The next day; five days before Passover, a Friday NOT a Sunday; Jesus enters Jerusalem in triumph, this was a fore-type of his entrance to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives to become King of all the earth at his soon coming return!
Many wrongly claim that Christ entered Jerusalem on a Sunday, to be consistent with their false belief of a Friday crucifixion. There is no such thing as Palm Sunday in the scriptures! Jesus and his disciples were welcomed into Jerusalem on a Friday!
12:12 On the next day [after the anointing of Christ’s feet] much people that were come to the feast [of Passover and ULB], when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 12:13 Took branches of palm trees [A symbol of triumph and royalty], and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna [Salvation]: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna means Bless Us, or Save Us, or Our Salvation. Notice that this was the fifth day BEFORE the Wednesday Passover; which was a Friday.
12:14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, 12:15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt. 12:16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
It was customary for a new king to ride to his coronation on an ass as a sign of humility in leadership. By doing this Jesus was not only fulfilling the prophets, he was symbolically proclaiming himself to be the king! Which would have further convinced his disciples, the priests and the people; that he was about to take the kingdom and rule over them.
These things including what took place later at Passover were not understood until AFTER Christ’s ascension to God the Father and his return later that day as our High Priest giving his Spirit to his eleven disciples.
Notice that the people came because Jesus had raised the dead Lazarus to life. The next time Christ will also come to the city AFTER he has raised the dead in Christ to spirit and AFTER the wedding supper in heaven.
When the resurrection takes place many will see the dead rise and will begin to believe and repent [beginning with Israel] and turning to him; and will then welcome him when he comes with his chosen: crying out “Save Us” (Zech 14)
Revelation 11:12 And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them. 11:13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
Christ will come WITH his resurrected chosen (Jude); and the people who had seen this marvelous thing will accept Christ as their God and their King; and beg for his deliverance.
John 12:17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record [witnessed to]. 12:18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
The great crowds came out because of the raising of Lazarus and the many witnesses of that miracle which clearly pointed to Jesus as Messiah.
The crowds were coming because of that miracle; and this was a foretaste of the crowds that will welcome Christ as King of kings; after Jesus has resurrected the chosen dead and when Christ comes WITH his saints to save and rule the earth.
WHY have these simple and so very beautiful allegories not been taught?
12:19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him.
The religious establishment of the day is now incensed in fear and jealousy, and ready to make their fatal move
12:20 And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: 12:21 The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. 12:22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
At this point his fame has spread to the point that even foreigners from foreign lands begin to seek him out, incensing the religious establishment even further.
12:23 And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. 12:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
Jesus tries to warn his disciples of what is coming and declares that only by dying [giving up the physical for the spiritual] can much spiritual fruit be brought forth.
12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. 12:26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
This is a key teaching of Christ: We are NOT to love physical things, or our physical lives in this world, nor the pleasures of this physical world! We are to follow God the Father and Christ the Good Shepherd right to the grave, and he will save us to eternal life in the spirit if we do.
Oh, how very far we have fallen away from this standard of true converted behavior.
The Father witnesses from heaven that Jesus is the son of God
12:27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 12:28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
12:29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. 12:30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 12:33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.
12:34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up [crucified]? who is this Son of man? 12:35 Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. 12:36 While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them.
We are to always live by the light of Christ shining within us through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us and leading us into FULL UNITY with God the Father and with Jesus Christ.
To compromise with God’s commandments, instructions and example; is to quench that light [of the Spirit] and to turn back into the darkness of bondage to sin and the Pharaoh of this world.
12:37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: 12:38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? 12:39 Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, 12:40 He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. 12:41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his [Christ’s] glory, and spake of him.
The masses called out for him to save them, not because they believed his words, but because of his miracles. Many today believe on Christ, and still do not KEEP what he TAUGHT.
Many of them believed and would not take a stand, because they feared men more than God! So it is in the Ekklesia today: Many Believers without spiritual backbone
12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
It is the same in the religious establishment of the called out Ekklesia today. Many leaders and brethren would repent and turn back to God, except for fear of losing jobs and losing the respect of their peers.
Here, Jesus says that he is/was in perfect UNITY with God the Father; as we are supposed to be!
12:44 Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. 12:45 And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
Christ came and died for us, to light the way to reconciliation with God the Father as the door of salvation to eternal life. He came to set us an example that we should follow, so that we might become LIKE HIM! and achieve HIS complete UNITY WITH GOD THE FATHER!
To depart from the example and instructions of Christ; to compromise with the Word of God the Father: IS to depart from CHRIST, and to dwell in darkness!
12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. [At that time, but he will judge in the end] 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. [In the end we shall be judged by the Book of Life; the whole Word of God! and not by what other men say!] 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 12:50 And I know that his commandment [God’s Word is eternal life] is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak
Christ tell us that he has taught us all that God the Father had commanded, and that we shall be judged by every Word of God the Father.
If we KEEP Christ’s words and are faithful to live by every Word of God as Jesus taught; they shall bring us life everlasting!
If we chose to compromise with and reject the whole hearted enthusiastic DOING of the Word of God the Father and of Christ to follow idols of men; we live in darkness and have NO light in us.
It is by our actions based on God’s Word, that we shall be judged by the Word of God.
A little leaven leavens the whole lump! A little compromising and sin, pollutes the Temple of Almighty God!
Anyone who teaches to tolerate sin and false doctrine in the congregation, is a child of the darkness and not a child of the light of God!
Anyone who willingly compromises with the commandments of God the Father, and with the instructions and example of Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd: lacks the Light that guides the faithful children of the Light.
These are the words of Christ which we read at the Passover service. They are full of meaning and should be carefully studied and considered; not just read over and set aside for another year without any real understanding of what is being said.
As we prepare for this Passover, let us seriously study these words and what we are really committing ourselves to do with baptism and partaking of the Passover.
We are committing ourselves to work diligently to achieve FULL UNITY with God the Father and with the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ; in mind, spirit, approach, attitude and deeds; and to internalize their very natures by diligent study and by passionately living by every Word of God.
UNITY with God is the proper godly focus for converted brethren; not organizational unity which places the organization BETWEEN God and the brethren!.
Organizational unity is antithetical to unity with God; for every man is at a different level of understanding, and if we all move to and maintain the lowest common denominator for the sake of organizational unity; we have choked off all spiritual growth!
Today the Ekklesia is no longer a dynamic growing organism! WHY? Because they are focusing on organizational unity instead of focusing on unity with God. In so doing they have made an idol out of organizational unity and quenching the Holy Spirit of zeal, growth, and godliness!
Jesus knew before his last Passover; that, this Passover would be his last in the flesh, and that he would die on that Passover day; so his words as always were extremely meaningful.
John 13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
The word [before “Passover” here is a mistranslation due to ignorance by the translators of the difference between Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Here the word used is not Strong’s 3957 Pascha but “eorth” meaning a festival: The mean ing here is “on the Passover just before the festival”
Strongs Number: G1859
Orig: of uncertain affinity; a festival:–feast, holyday.
Use: Noun Feminine
- 1) a feast day, festival
We know from other scriptures that the meal was the Passover meal (Luk 22:15) and not the Festival of Unleavened Bread; therefore the proper translation is not; “before the Passover”, but: “on the Passover before the Festival Holy Day”.
John now skips forward to the Passover meal, and before I continue in John some background information is essential
The Four Passover Cups of Wine
The Four “I Wills”
During the Ezra Temple period Passover that Jesus Christ observed, the participants in the celebration, partook of four cups of wine. This is what has become known as the four “I Wills.” It is taken from Exodus 6:6-7.
Exodus 6:6-7 Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and
I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and
I will rid you out of their bondage, and
I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: And
I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God:
and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.
The first Passover cup, “I will bring you out,” is the “Cup of Deliverance” [Sanctification, or Calling Out; to Set Apart a people to God].
The second cup, “I will rid you out of their bondage,” is the “Cup of Praise and Rejoicing” at deliverance from bondage in Egypt and spiritually from bondage to sin.
The third cup, “I will redeem you with a stretched out arm,” is the “Cup of Redemption” picturing the redeeming sacrifice of the Lamb of God.
The fourth cup, “I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God,” is the “Cup of Acceptance” of the called out people by God.
The first cup, “I will bring you out,” is the cup of Deliverance [Sanctification]. This pictures Israel “Called Out” of Egypt and is an allegory of God calling out a spiritual people, out from the bondage of sin.
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
They would then have discussed the deliverance of Israel from Egypt and the first Passover, and a second cup, the “Cup of Rejoicing” was then drunk after the list of plagues was recited.
The second cup, “I will rid you out of their bondage,” is the cup of praise and rejoicing. We rejoice over our deliverance from bondage to sin as physical Israel rejoiced over their bondage in Egypt.
Then a third cup of wine, the “Cup of Redemption” was drunk at the END of the meal, which cup represented redemption through the sacrifice of the Lamb of God; and was the cup that Jesus blessed “at the end of the meal” as representative of his shed blood.
Then following the foot washing and the last teachings of Christ, after which the final Psalms 115-118, were sung: The fourth cup, “I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God,” the cup of Acceptance was drunk. Representing the acceptance of the Called Out by God the Father, after sincere repentance and the application of the redeeming sacrifice of the Lamb of God is applied.
Back to the narrative
John 13:2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him;
As the main part of the meal was ended and AFTER they had taken the blessed unleavened bread and wine; they were sitting there conversing and Jesus spoke of his betrayal.
Next in the timeline is the comment that the traitor was still sitting at the table with them; AFTER the Passover symbols were taken by all present.
The disciples then began to argue as to who would be greatest. One could easily speculate that they were relaxed by wine and started off by protesting that they would never betray Christ, with protests of loyalty burgeoning into an argument over who was the most loyal and the greatest.
Luke 22:21 But, behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me is with me on the table. 22:22 And truly the Son of man goeth, as it was determined: but woe unto that man by whom he is betrayed! 22:23 And they began to enquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing. 22:24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
Then AFTER the Passover meal, and AFTER the Unleavened Bread and Wine; they began to strive among themselves yet again, as to who should be the greatest.
John 13:3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; 13:4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
13:5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
13:6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 13:7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 13:8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
Peter now understanding and being filled with zeal said; I want to be completely united with you Lord, even if that means that you wash me completely!
To have a part with Christ, we must serve him and let him serve us; that means doing his will whatever that will is; it means allowing him to bless us as well as to instruct and correct us.
13:9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
Jesus then said for those with ears to hear, that Judas was still among them and was spiritually unclean. He then begins to explain what he has done and the type of leaders he expects them and us to become.
Jesus knew that he had washed the betrayer’s feet, and yet said that ye are not all clean, referring to the uncleanness of Judas’ mind and spirit.
13:10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all [of you are clean]. 13:11 For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
13:12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13:13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 13:14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
Brethren, it is NOT enough that we wash someone’s feet at Passover and then forget Christ’s example of serving God the Father and the flock. It is NOT enough that we say this is a lesson in HUMILITY and forget or marginalize the fact that it is a lesson in SERVICE and how we are to behave towards God and others, and how we are to behave in our lives.
13:15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 13:16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 13:17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
Those who would say that this foot washing was at the beginning of the meal as they arrived, and that it was considered the duty of a host to wash the guests feet; are not only WRONG; they are minimalizing the importance and significance of the very Creator and coming Ruler of the world, and the extraordinary example of humble service he was setting.
This was no ordinary washing; it was a most PROFOUND and EXTRAORDINARY EVENT!
Christ was NOT the host! The house holder was the host and Christ along with his disciples were the guests. Second; hosts provided water to guests, but did not wash their feet, although a slave in a wealthy household might do so, this, in the same manner as we would let our guests use our washrooms. Third; this foot washing did not remove the road dirt as they arrived, it was done AFTER dinner. This washing was not the normal washing upon arrival, or at the beginning before the Passover meal; it was after the Passover meal and symbols; for “supper being ended”; ”he arose from supper” [the Passover table] to wash their feet.
Jesus Christ knowing that he was Messiah and Lord of all the earth, humbled himself to perform an act of service; setting an example for his disciples that they should also serve God and one another. This was a physical act to teach the principle about godly leadership in response to the continual bickering among the disciples over who should be the greatest.
Notice that the Passover meal with the Unleavened Bread and the Third Cup of Wine had ENDED; and also notice that Christ KNEW of the betrayal of Judas; and yet washed the feet of Judas also!
Christ declares that when he is gone to God the Father and the Comforter is sent to them: they will begin to understand this thing; about who will be the greatest among them. They WILL understand the attitude of service required of a man of God; to serve God and love our very enemies! We are to do good to those who hate us and abuse us; following the example and instructions of our Lord.
Does that mean coddling sin? NO, NO , NO: It means rebuking sin, and setting a sinless example as Christ did! It means forgiving our enemies as Christ has forgiven us!
Consider that “THESE THINGS” are plural; this is NOT just talking about washing someone’s feet: This is about the other Passover Symbols as well; and our whole attitude towards God, humanity and how we live our lives; it is about our DUTY to our Father and our brethren and towards all of humanity.
13:18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
This is speaking of the Passover Unleavened Bread taken by Judas; showing that even the taking of Passover like circumcision, baptism or ordination; is NO proof of ultimate godliness or conversion. We shall be judged by our DEEDS and obedience to the Word of God; not by the appearances we put on.
They had returned to the table AFTER the Passover meal, the Unleavened Bread and Wine, and after the foot washing and the lesson of servant leadership.
It is only then: after he has partaken of the meal, the Unleavened Bread and Wine, and after Christ has washed his feet; that Judas is singled out and leaves to betray him.
Christ and God the Father are ONE in FULL UNITY; and we are to be ONE in FULL UNITY with them.
Those who accept any person who is ONE in FULL UNITY with God the Father and Jesus Christ are also accepting God the Father and the Good Shepherd Jesus Christ.
However any person at ONE with God the Father and Christ; must and will reject all teachings that ARE NOT in total unity with God the Father and Jesus Christ; as FALSE!
13:19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. 13:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
Now: AFTER the meal, AFTER the taking of the unleavened bread and wine, AFTER the foot washing: Jesus Christ reveals that he knows who the TRAITOR is and Judas leaves to do his deed.
13:21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
13:22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake. 13:23 Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples [John speaks of himself], whom Jesus loved. 13:24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
13:25 He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it? 13:26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. 13:27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
This was the Passover evening and the disciples thought that Judas was being sent to buy the things needed for the Feast of Unleavened Bread. This clearly shows that Passover was not a High Day but a preparation day for the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
13:28 Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him. 13:29 For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy those things that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor. 13:30 He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
When Judas had left, Jesus begins to teach about his death and resurrection. These final instructions and prayers of Christ are read at every Christian Passover service.
John 13:31 Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
Christ says that, as God the Father is in glory; so the Father shall raise up Christ from the dead, to be in glory like [and with] God the Father.
13:32 If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
The actions of the Son are for the purpose of glorifying the Father; and it is the Father’s good pleasure to glorify the Son.
13:33 Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
The disciples would follow him in martyrdom in their later years; and at the resurrection to spirit, they will also be raised up as Christ was raised up. Yet they could not follow him in resurrection to spirit, until we also are ready to join them.
Revelation 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar [in heaven where the unconscious spirits of the faithful go to be stored against the resurrection] the [spirits] souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
6:10 And they [figuratively] cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
6:11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
This is a new commandment in that the spirit and intent of the commandments of God are the definition of love, for God is love. Jesus came and revealed the spirit and intent of God the Father and the Word of God.
One CAN keep the letter without keeping the spirit of the commandments!
One CANNOT keep the spirit of the commandments of God; without also keeping the letter of the law!
The letter of the law is the foundation of the spirit of the law; for there can be no SPIRIT of a law, if that law does not exist!
The teachings of Christ are to reveal the spirit and intent of the letter of the law! The teachings of Christ are not intended to destroy the law, but to reveal the purpose and intent, the spirit of the law! Thereby making the letter of the law even more binding!
Matthew 5:27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love
1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
When we have enough faith in God to live by every Word of God; and we are steadfast in that faith to KEEP all that our God teaches us in his Word; then we become UNITED with God the Father and Christ and overcome sin through them!
Those who compromise are NOT overcomers, nor are they in FULL UNITY with God the Father and Christ.
1 John 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
God’s people will be known by their zealous keeping of all of God’s commandments [which IS love] instead of the traditions of men. The whole Word of God; is the love of God defined!
To be born of God, we must overcome sin through the keeping of God’s commandments and by internalizing the love [law, nature] of God in us; through sincere repentance, reconciliation to God the Farther by Christ’s sacrifice, baptism and a passionate keeping of the Word of God through the indwelling nature and power of God.
John 13:36 Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards. 13:37 Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake. 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
Christ tells Peter that he [and the others] will follow him in martyrdom at another time. Then Jesus points out the weakness of the flesh; prophesying that Peter would deny him [before the Holy Spirit was given to him].
This was a lesson to Peter and it should be a powerful lesson to us: ONLY by trusting and following Christ to keep the whole Word of God as HE kept it, can we overcome Satan and sin.
John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 14:2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 14:4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Jesus says that he is going on ahead to prepare offices in the Kingdom for his disciples, promising to return and resurrect the faithful chosen and change them to spirit, so that we may be with him and work with him to bring in the larger main harvest.
He reminds them that he must first go to God the Father [The Wave Offering] and that they/we know the way to God the Father, which is through the Door of Christ using the keys of sincere repentance and a firm commitment and diligent effort to live by every Word of God and to “Go and sin no more”.
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Remember that Christ GAVE UP HIS GLORY to become flesh; and that while Christ was in the flesh the ONLY God existing as God was God the Father!
For this reason Christ prayed that his original glory should be reinstated by God the Father.
Jesus had given up his God-ship to be made flesh; and to be tempted of the devil in all things: As a demonstration that a man could overcome and keep the commandments perfectly through the indwelling Spirit of God.
Yes, Jesus Christ could have very easily failed in his mission, IF he had allowed himself to be distracted or to lose sight of God the Father and compromise with his Father’s law just once.
There is only ONE Mediator between men and God the Father: Our eternal High Priest: Jesus Christ!
Understand that the abomination of the final false prophet will teach that ALL religions are just different paths to the same God, and exalt himself as mankind’s ultimate moral authority!
The job of the two prophets is to boldly declare that there is ONLY ONE Mediator between men and God the Father; and only ONE DOOR TO SALVATION: Our High Priest Jesus Christ!
To boldly declare a message of warning and repentance; to a zealous faithful keeping of the Word of God the Father through the power of Christ The Mighty Over-Comer, dwelling within us!
John 17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
John 14:5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Here we have Jesus Christ himself defining that the ONLY way to God the Father and eternal life is through Jesus Christ, our High Priest; who is the ONLY Mediator between man and God the Father!
14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. 14:8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Jesus Christ did not dare teach anything of his own while in the flesh; he was in TOTAL UNITY with God the Father; in mind and spirit: as we are supposed to become through internalizing Jesus Christ as the Unleavened Bread of Life.
We are to teach the truth of God the Father and not to teach our own ways, assumptions and traditions.
How is it that many religious leaders dare to teach compromise with the Father’s Word and tolerance for the sin that God despises because it destroys his children?
14:11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
Believe it! God the Father and the Son are TOTALLY UNITED AS ONE! The Word of God is also one whole!
Our calling is NOT to be united with every person, or every teaching of men: Our calling is to become united with God the Father, as Christ is united with God the Father!
That is the foundation of real unity; standing on that foundation we will also become united with like-minded persons, who are also united with God!
NEVER tolerate sin for the sake of unity with sinful men!
Always seek TOTAL UNITY with God the Father through the indwelling of the Son!
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. [Which is the WHOLE WORD of GOD and anything that is asked of us by God!]
The Holy Spirit will be given to those who KEEP God’s commandments; who live by every Word of God!
What we need will be provided by God if we seek to enter his kingdom by keeping and internalizing God’s Word! If it is not given in this life, it will be given later with the resurrection to eternal life. God will not give eternal life to those who resist keeping God’s Word or those who compromise with God’s Word and tolerate sin.
1 John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.
God’s Spirit is the Spirit of truth [God’s word is Truth]; and if we reject truth for our own ways, the Spirit of God will leave us!
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
God’s Spirit was working with the disciples, but was not yet dwelling in them. It was given to them after Christ had been resurrected to spirit and accepted by God the Father as the Wave Offering for us to become the High Priest of the New Covenant.
14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
While he is ascended into heaven we cannot see Christ with our eyes; yet we shall see him through his words, and because he lives and will dwell in us if we keep his Word; we have life eternal if we endure to the end and overcome as he overcame.
14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
We can know when Christ is dwelling in someone, because they will be doing what Christ did! They will be living by every Word of God with intense exuberant passion!
Christ will be keeping his Father’s commandments in us, as he has always done; and therefore Christ will be manifested in us by our uncompromising Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God.
14:22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
Those who do not keep the words of Christ are NOT of Christ: No matter how many fine arguments they make or how many tears they shed to try to entrap us into acting on emotion, contrary to the Commandments and Teachings of Jesus Christ!
14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
Brethren, have we as leaders, organizations and as brethren; kept the words and commandments of God the Father and of Jesus Christ? Absolutely NOT! We even condemn and reject those who do!
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of BOTH God the Father and of Jesus Christ; they will BOTH come to dwell with us if we are willing to follow their lead and seek diligently to become like them! This “Spirit” is their very nature; which nature of God we are to internalize and make our very own nature!
Those who do not KEEP the words of Christ do NOT love HIM; no matter what they claim.
14:24 He that loveth me not, keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear [from Christ] is not mine, but the Father’s which sent me.
Those who do not keep the sayings and follow the example of Christ: DO NOT LOVE OR KNOW CHRIST; NEITHER DO THEY KNOW OR LOVE GOD THE FATHER! This is true, no matter how much they protest that they love Jesus.
1 John 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk [live], even as he walked [as Christ lived].
John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things [the whole word of God], and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
God’s Spirit will bring Christ’s words to remembrance in us, and shall give us a good understanding of the Word of God; IF we live by every Word of God.
God is NOT divided against himself and his nature will NOT dwell with a sinful nature. If we compromise with God’s commandments and tolerate sin; we quench God’s Spirit and it will leave us.
We MUST follow where God’s \Spirit leads; we MUST act on what we learn and we must become diligent DOERS of all the whole Word of God.
Test the spirits whether they are from God. How do we know that a spirit is from God? Because God is not divided against himself; God’s Spirit will lead and empower us to KEEP the whole Word of God!
Anyone who teaches to compromise with God’s Word; or who teaches that a zealous man is a Pharisee; or who teaches to tolerate unrepentant sin, and refuses to rebuke sin; or any group or man that will not preach the Gospel of warning and repentance that Christ has commanded us to preach, is NOT OF GOD and is NOT OF JESUS CHRIST!
14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Peace is a fruit of God’s Spirit, the fruit of FAITH: We know that we can trust and rely on the Word and promises of God; which are eternal life for all those who keep the Word of God and become ONE in FULL UNITY with God the Father and Christ; and this sure knowledge brings true peace of mind!
14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. 14:29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe. 14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
The disciples did not yet understand that the time had come that he would be sacrificed for the sins of the world.
14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
Christ taught and did whatever God the Father had directed and inspired him to teach and do. Jesus Christ loved God the Father and the Father’s law and will. He did NOT compromise with that law, neither did he tolerate unrepentant sin, but boldly rebuked sinners; including the religious establishment leaders of his day.
The Vine and Branches
This is a powerful; explanation of the meaning of the command to cut branches and bring them into the temple at the Feast of Tabernacles. Bringing in the branches with great rejoicing represents bringing in of the harvest of humanity into the Family of God.
Jesus teaches that he is the vine [or trunk] of the tree of life; and that the called out to him are the branches. As a branch receives its nourishment from the vine and trunk of the tree; so we receive our spiritual nourishment from the Bread of Life, the true VINE; Jesus Christ!
To have eternal life; we MUST be in FULL UNITY with Christ; and if we turn away from any of the teachings of Christ, which teaching is that we must live by every Word of God the Father in the letter and in the spirit and intent of the law; we will be rejected by Christ and by God the Father, because we have already rejected their Word.
If we remain faithfully loyal to Jesus Christ and God the Father by diligently studying and zealously KEEPING and living by every Word of God; we will still be tried, tested and given experiences bad and good, to increase our spiritual growth and development into FULL UNITY with Christ.
John 15:1 I am the true vine [trunk of the tree, the Logos the whole Word of God], and my Father is the husbandman. 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit [is NOT faithful and zealous to live by every Word of God as Christ does] he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit [living by EVERY WORD of GOD], he purgeth [trims and trains] it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
If we abide in the Word of God, doing those things that please Christ and God the Father; they will abide in us through the Spirit of God. If we are NOT zealous to KEEP the Word of God; WE ARE NONE OF HIS!
Remember that, when you are asked by your elder to pollute the Sabbath; take Passover and observe High Days on the wrong dates, or in the wrong ways; or are told that you need not eat Unleavened Bread every day of the Feast as God has commanded.
Remember in “Harmonizing the Gospels Concerning the last Passover of Christ“ After washing the disciple’s feet; they were all clean except one. That one being the person who did not spiritually abide in Christ the true VINE
15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
Beware of false teachers who tolerate sin and are not filled with Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God; Because without a firm close FULL UNITY with the true Christ who lives by every Word of God; our religion is vain and meaningless, and falls to the status of a human social club.
15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
To be grafted into the true vine of Christ; we MUST be called of God the Father; believe, repent and be baptized for the remission of sins to be granted. And IF we remain abiding in God; with him dwelling us; IF we follow the Holy Spirit’s lead into all truth diligently keeping God’s Word, then we shall bear much fruit!
15:6 If a man abide not in me [living in Christ-like zeal to live by EVERY WORD of GOD], he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Those who compromise with any part of the whole Word of God , which Christ loves; and who tolerate sin, which Christ hates; will be rejected and cast into the furnace of affliction; and if they still do not repent, cast into the fire of ultimate destruction.
15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
“Continue in my love” means that Christ wants our loving relationship with HIM to continue, through our learning and keeping the Word that he has preached; which is to do God the Father’s will and live by every Word of God.
Watch Out! Many will teach to keep the commandments, but by commandments they mean their own false traditions and not the whole Word of God.
15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
What did Christ command us? He kept the whole Word of God fully and we are to do likewise, living as he lived and as he will live in us.
Jesus Christ lived a life of perfect obedience to his beloved Father, and he will live a life of perfect obedience to God the Father in us!
Matthew 19:17 . . . . but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments
John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
We are to be willing to lay down our lives for God the Father and Jesus Christ; as Christ laid down his life for us! How long will we squabble over who gets to lead; and over who gets what?
How has the love of God disappeared from us? where has our zeal to live by every Word of God gone? where is our unity with God?
15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.
Amos 3:3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?
Our prayers are answered in direct proportion to our diligent keeping of the whole Word of God!
John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
All God’s people, all the called of God the Father; are to be filled with the love of God; love for God and his way of life first and love for God’s Word to learn and to keep it; and then love for others. What is love? God is love; and the KEEPING of the Word of God is love.
HOW do we love? By internalizing Jesus Christ and God the Father, through following the example of Jesus Christ, and sincere repentance for our law breaking; and a diligent, passionate, enthusiastic living by every Word of God.
It is then that we shall be united with God the Father and Jesus Christ, as they are united with each other! It is then that we shall be called “the friends of God”; like our spiritual father, Abraham!
15:17 These things I command you, that ye love one another.
The law in its full purpose, spirit and intent; defines the love of God!
If we keep the whole law in all its spirit, purpose and intent we become like God; becoming fully united with Christ and God the Father; and they are Agape Love personified!
IF we loved God, we would DO what God’s Word says, we would do those things which are pleasing in God’s sight. Like little children we would want to become LIKE our Father!
Falling into the lukewarmness of Laodicea, is to become offensive and disgusting to Christ; who will spew us out of his body, like a dead branch cut off from a vine.
15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
If we love personal advantage and the things of this world, more than we love God the Father and Christ: We are not worthy of them; we are NOT their friends; we are the friends of this evil world and its god-king Pharaoh [Satan], who is the enemy of God.
If we love God and are of God: Living as Christ and God the Father live; we are the friends of God! United with God the Father and Christ through love for them, for God’s Word!
IF we are NOT of the world and not worldly: The world will reject us [yes, even within the corporate churches]; the worldly will hate and persecute us.
15:20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
If we are the friends of God; we shall face the same rejection and persecution that Christ faced from the ungodly who will NOT obey our Lord.
Those that God the Father calls, and who respond to Christ’s example and teachings: will become his true friends, because they will be like-minded with Jesus Christ and God the Father!
15:21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
Because the worldly reject God the Father, they will also reject Christ’s example and teachings; and they will reject the faithful, who diligently FOLLOW the example and teachings of Christ to live by every Word of God.
This watered down business model inoffensive false gospel WILL NOT WORK! It will ONLY offend Almighty God and separate us from our Lord; the true friend of the zealously faithful!
Pandering to worldliness will not please God, nor will it bring in godly converts. Instead it will offend our God and get us rejected by him for our shallowness and lack of unity with him.
15:22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin. 15:23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
Why do we put so much trust in apostate traditions; claiming to love God while making God’s law of no effect by our false traditions?
If We love Christ: We WILL DO WHAT HE TEACHES!
Jesus said that even if the people do not understand his doctrine; his WORKS testify that he is of God the Father.
Can that be said of us? Do our WORKS reveal that we are a godly people; or an ungodly people?
15:24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. 15:25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
If we are in UNITY with Christ, we will be doing what Christ did and living by his every Word: Then our works will be HIS works in us, and our example will be his example in us.
Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits [works, deeds] ye shall know them.
John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 15:27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
The eleven [Judas absent] are here commanded to bear witness of Christ and his love for God the Father, and we are to do likewise.
With the Spirit of Truth bringing all things that we have learned about God the Father and the Son to our remembrance, so that we may have a good understanding of, and KEEP true godliness, coming into FULL SPIRITUAL UNITY WITH GOD; that we may proclaim all these things to all nations.
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
John 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.
We are being warned of the price to be paid for internalizing God the Father and Jesus Christ, so that we will not become discouraged and offended when the time comes to pay that price.
This should be a part of every baptismal counseling and everyone should be aware of the cost of being rejected by our brethren and the world because of a dedicated single minded zeal to live by the whole Word of God and seeking that “Pearl of Great Price;” eternal life in the Kingdom [Family] of God.
16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues [congregations, assemblies]: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 16:3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
This is speaking about the religious establishment of that day, and also about the spiritual Ekklesia in OUR day, and about the church groups who openly persecute those zealous for God’s Word; as well as trials from the outside world.
This process of turning the Gospel of warning and repentance into an inoffensive business model lure to attract new folks who have little if any commitment to learn and keep God’s Word; brings in many tares, who then rise to the top and begin to persecute the truly called out faithful zealous brethren.
That is why it is so wrong to exalt such organizations of men; for they will surely, over time, always ultimately turn on the zealous and the godly righteous.
Always, always, always: PUT GOD FIRST! Put God the Father and Jesus Christ ABOVE any organizational or human loyalties; or you will be committing the sin of idolatry!
Consider very carefully that many of these people who would despise you now, for your example of zeal; will come to you in the end of the matter and say: “Thank you so much for standing fast and doing the right thing and setting the right example for us. We despised you at the time, NOW we KNOW that you were right! Come and teach us the Way of the Lord”.
If we give in and give up, because of their animosity today; we have neither helped them nor helped ourselves; we have separated ourselves from God and offended the Almighty!
If we endure steadfastly to keep the law, the whole Word of God and the will of God the Father, and the words and example of Christ; we are setting an example that will, over time, as these things work out, translate into credibility; as people will surely learn and KNOW that God is with us, because of our love, faith and zeal for our Mighty God!
If we endure and overcome, being always zealous and faithful to God the Father and Jesus Christ; we shall be exalted by God the Father, to become kings and priests forever; helping to teach and reconcile all humanity to God!
Revelation 3:9 Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan [deceived by Satan], which say they are [converted] Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship [worship God with your guidance] before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
Zechariah 8:23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt [coat] of him that is a [spiritual] Jew [a New Covenant true godly person], saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
John 16:4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. 16:5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? 16:6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
It was absolutely essential that Christ complete and fullfil his mission to be a propitiation for the sins of the world.
16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
The Comforter [the Holy Spirit] WILL reprove sin! It will lead us into the righteousness of the whole Word of God, into a FULL UNITY with God:
IF we follow the lead of God’s Spirit and passionately KEEP the Word of God, the Holy Spirit will reprove all sin and all departure from any part of the whole Word of God in us!
No man can say that we should tolerate sin [which is the breaking of ANY PART of the whole Word of God; not just the Ten] and false doctrine by the Spirit of God! Anyone who claims that God’s Spirit will tolerate willful sin is spiritually IGNORANT.
16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
The Spirit of God, is the very nature of Christ and God the Father, given to dwell within us, and giving us understanding and the power to overcome as Christ overcame.
16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
God’s Spirit will lead us into all truth: IF we are willing to follow its lead!
God’s Spirit will not force us, or strive with us; we MUST willingly and diligently FOLLOW it; we must diligently seek the truth and meditate on the words and law of God, day and night as David did (Psalm 119). And we MUST APPLY and DO what we learn!
We must follow the Spirit of God, and follow the Lamb!
Revelation 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women [false religion and false doctrine]; for they are [spiritually pure and faithful to Christ their Husband] virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.
God the Father has given all things to Jesus Christ; and that includes the very nature of God the Father.
John 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
“All things” meaning that the Father’s whole Word, and the very nature of God the Father are in Christ; therefore the Holy Spirit will take the things of Christ [which ARE the things of God the Father] and reveal them to the flock.
16:16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father. 16:17 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? 16:18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith. 16:19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
Jesus prophesies of his death and how they will mourn for him; and then prophesies of their great joy at his resurrection. The disciples not yet understanding that he must die for us and afterwards be raised up by God the Father.
16:21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world. 16:22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. 16:23 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 16:24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
Here Christ reveals that after he has been sacrificed, raised up, and accepted by God the Father; the sincerely repentant will also have direct access to God the Father through the High Priest of our Salvation; Jesus Christ the very Lamb of God.
It is made clear here that no one had access to God the Father before Jesus Christ became our High Priest [except Christ himself]; therefore the God that men spoke with before-times was the one who became Jesus Christ [Hebrew: Yeshua Messiah].
This concept that God is a family, has not been generally understood. One part of the mission of Christ was to reveal God the Father; and to provide a reconciling sacrifice to bring man into harmony with God the Father.
Today the faithful Called Out have access to God the Father in the name of the Son, our High Priest!
It is because God the Father was unknown and the people had neither knowledge of, nor access to him; that the Most Holy Place was always covered by a thick curtain; signifying that God the Father was not yet known or available to the people. While the High Priest who entered once a year, was a metaphor for Christ our High Priest forever; who provides access to God the Father in the Most Holy Place.
Those physical High Priests could not provide access to the unknown Father, therefore the Most Holy Place was empty except for the Ark and was sealed off to them!
The physical High Priests they were only types of Christ, who COULD and did, remove sin and provide access to the very God the Father that he came to reveal.
We now have access to the Most Holy Father in heaven, through sincere repentance and the application of the reconciling sacrifice of Christ; as our Passover sacrificed for us!
16:25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.
God the Father was not known, and Christ would show his disciples God the Father plainly.
16:26 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: 16:27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God. 16:28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
Christ says very plainly that he came forth FROM God the Father, and that he will go back TO God the Father: revealing the existence of the Father; and explaining the mystery that BOTH he and God the Father are members of the same Elohim entity or ONE family of Mighty Ones known as God!
16:29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. 16:30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God. 16:31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe? 16:32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Jesus Christ [Hebrew: Yeshua Mashiach] has overcome the world of bondage to Satan and sin! We CAN overcome the world through Christ dwelling within us!
With that sure and certain knowledge, we CAN have peace of mind, even in the greatest distress.
The Prayer of Christ
Many read right over this at Passover not even realizing the distinction between Christ’s words directed to the disciples and his prayer to God the Father.
Christ prays that the called out may “Know” Him and God the Father and be spiritually ONE in FULL UNITY with them.
John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: 17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know [be one with] thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
Christ came to reveal and glorify God the Father! The one who became Jesus Christ was the Creator and the God of Abraham and Moses. Consider how much he gave up to be made flesh and die for his creation!
17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
Christ plainly says that he was WITH God the Father and had a glory WITH God the Father; BEFORE the very world began!
17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
One thing among many things that Jesus did, was to manifest or make known God the Father unto the spiritually faithful!
Christ declares plainly that all that he taught and did was from God the Father; and that he did nothing of his own self. There is absolutely NO difference between Christ and God the Father in their teachings, commandments, actions and in their very natures! They are united, they are ONE together. That is the meaning of the Shema.
Deuteronomy 6:1 Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
6:2 That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
6:3 Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey.
As God the Father and Christ are one; they share the same Family name YHVH. Elohim is a generic name for all authorities and YHVH is the specific name for the Family of God, which owns and rules the universe!
6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. 6:6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
6:7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
6:8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. 6:9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Where is there any compromise or tolerance of sin [after all sin is rebellion against God] in our beloved Lord or his magnificent Holy Father? How is it that some mere created person dares to presume to resist the whole Word of the Family which created and rules the entire universe? Our HEAD is Jesus Christ and HIS HEAD is God the Father!
John 17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 17:10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
We are to be in [fully united with] God the Father AND in [fully united with] the Son! We belong to BOTH God the Father AND the Son! We are to OBEY our adopted spiritual Father, as the law says! We are to obey our espoused Husband, the son of the Father; as the law says.
17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one [with God], as we are [one]. 17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name [Christ did all things in the name of God the Father]: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. 17:13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
17:14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. 17:16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
We live in this society right now, but we are NOT to be worldly.
17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
We are to be sanctified [Set Apart] unto God; through the truth of God. We are to diligently study, learn and act on the truth of God’s Word; which will set us apart from this world and its ways. Those who reject any truth are NOT of God.
17:18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world. 17:19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
Christ set himself apart from the world, that we may also be Set Apart from all worldliness and sin, through sincere repentance and the application of his sacrifice and by going forward to sin no more, following his instructions and example.
17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
We are to be united with God the Father and with the Son, as they are totally united with each other!
Our unity is to be WITH God the Father and WITH Christ; and not with just any other god, person or idol. Unity with our brethren comes through unity with God our Father as a foundation, only then can we be united with like-minded persons.
To be united with others just for the sake of organizational unity is to be united with men and not with God! How many compromises have been made for the sake of the IDOL of unity with men in place of true unity with God?
We have FORGOTTEN OUR FOUNDATION: which is every Word of God!
Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both [reconciled the repentant to be in unity with God the Father] one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;
Christ made peace between us and God the Father, by breaking down the partition of sin that separates us from HIM!
2:15 Having abolished in his flesh [by his sacrifice] the enmity, even the [the penalty owed for breaking] law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain [men divided from God] one new man [now reconciled to God], so making peace; 2:16 And that he might reconcile both [reconcile the two, man and God] unto God in one body [in unity with God] by the cross [by his sacrifice], having slain the enmity [destroyed the division of sin between God and man] thereby: 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off [the Gentiles], and to them that were nigh [the Jews].
Having paid the penalty for our sins by giving up his life for sinners; Christ paid the penalty for those sins; and reconciled us to God the Father. Making of us a new being, still of flesh, yet filled with the Spirit of God.
2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Through repentance and the application of the Passover sacrifice of Christ, we have access to God the Father and the very Spirit and nature of God.
2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.
We must set aside all worldliness and build in ourselves a NEW PERSON on the foundation of the Word of God; WITHOUT compromise or any toleration of sin; for the sake of unity with the sinful. We must not tolerate sin to be united with the sinful; when our calling is to learn to abhor all sin for the sake of UNITY with GOD!
John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: 17:23 I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.
We are to be ONE with God the Father and Christ; as they are ONE with each other. We are to be full of Christ-like zeal for God the Father: WITHOUT compromise and WITHOUT ceasing!
17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world. 17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
Christ asks that his followers be glorified [changed to spirit] as he is to be glorified [changed to spirit].
17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Christ openly says that he has declared [revealed] God the Father to his disciples, so that they will all know God the Father like the Son knows him; and so that we can enter into the same loving unity, that Christ has with God the Father.
Jesus ending his prayer and singing Psalms 115-118 (Mark 14:26) they left the banquet room and went out to a garden with his disciples.
John 18:1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
Here John skips over the events and prayer in the garden covered in the other Gospels and goes directly to the arrest of Christ.
18:2 And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples. 18:3 Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.
18:4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that should come upon him, went forth, and said unto them, Whom seek ye? 18:5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.
Satan had entered Judas and the others were also motivated by demons; therefore when Christ said “I Am Christ” they fell back from him.
18:6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he , they went backward, and fell to the ground.
Jesus then told them to let his compatriots leave, and they obeyed him.
18:7 Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 18:8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way: 18:9 That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
At this point I am going to insert the events in the garden not covered by John.
Matthew 26:36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
Jesus takes three disciples with him, but they fail him being full of food and wine and the evening being late; they did not understand what was about to happen and fell asleep
26:37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. 26:38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
Jesus prays to God the Father that he might be saved from having to suffer and die, yet he commits to doing the will of God the Father even to the death. Oh, that we would pray the same prayer and really mean it and follow through with passion to learn and to keep the whole Word and Will of God the Father.
26:39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
After praying Jesus returns to find the three asleep; and warns them that they are willing but their spirit is weak; and that much prayer is needed.
The very same is true of us. We may be willing, but when confronted with temptation or trials our spirit is weak to resist and we need the gift of God’s Spirit of power and a sound mind, to discern the holy from the profane and to walk in holiness.
Whenever we face a trial; the very first thing to do is run to God our Father [as Jesus did] and ask for his wisdom and his strength to do his will!
26:40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
It is apparent that these are not the full prayers and only give the nature of these prayers, for Jesus prayed longer than a one or two sentence prayer. Jesus was agonizing over what he faced and was very intensively preparing himself and arming himself with the Spirit and power of God the Father to fulfill the task appointed to him. We also need the strength and wisdom of God our Father to fulfill the task of overcoming the world as Christ overcame the world.
26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done. 26:43 And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
If we neglect to seek spiritual strength from God our Father and try to deal with spiritual forces, temptations and trials, by our own wisdom and physical strength and by our own ways; we may be strong and courageous like Peter, but we shall fail miserably like Peter. Jesus knew that the battle is SPIRITUAL and we wrestle with spiritual powers.
26:44 And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
Here Jesus chides them for their sleepiness as his time was come.
26:45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 26:46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
Judas betrays who Jesus was from among the crowd of his disciples, singling him out by a kiss. These men who came to arrest Jesus were sent from the priests and did not know Jesus by sight.
26:47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 26:48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 26:49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
Then brave Peter not understanding that the time for the Kingdom of God was not yet come, stood up to defend Jesus.
John 18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
In spite of this violence, this band let the disciples go; and Jesus told Peter that he [Jesus] must DO God the Father’s will and die for humanity.
Jesus gave his life to do God the Father’s will: And so many of us today, cannot even stay away from polluting Sabbath in a restaurant!
18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? 18:12 Then the band and the captain and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him, 18:13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year. 18:14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
John was known to the High Priest, yet he followed Jesus right into the lion’s lair because he loved his Master. How many of us would do this? How many of us would be faithful to keep the whole Word of God and to follow the Lamb of God withersoever he goeth? Most of us cannot do this in the good times; what will we do when the hour of trial is upon us?
18:15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple [John]: that disciple was known unto the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
John asked the door keeper to let Peter in, and she recognized Peter. It seems that the household of the high Priest knew very well not only Jesus but his disciples also.
Those who are faithful to the whole Word of God and follow the Lamb of God will be well known before the coming hour of trial is past. In times of trial either our spiritual light will shine as a beacon to others, or it will flicker out.
18:16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple [John], which was known unto the high priest, and spake unto her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
Peter denies Christ the first time
18:17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door unto Peter, Art not thou also one of this man’s disciples? He saith, I am not. 18:18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; for it was cold: and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
When asked of his doctrine, Jesus replies that his doctrine is well known by all
18:19 The high priest then asked Jesus of his disciples, and of his doctrine.
It was unlawful to make a man testify of or against himself, and Jesus then tells them to bring witnesses to what he had taught.
18:20 Jesus answered him, I spake openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue, and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing. 18:21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
Jesus insists that the officer who struck him, justify his unlawful act
18:22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so? 18:23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
18:24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.
Peter denies Christ a second time
18:25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.
Malchus’ [who’s ear Peter had cut off] kinsman, then remembers Peter, and Peter again denies Christ.
Brethren, Peter DID NOT yet have God’s Spirit!
When he received God’s Spirit of power, Peter would be in constant remembrance of his fleshly weakness without God’s Spirit all his life; yet he would not falter or quit; NO! NO! NO! He would go on to do mighty deeds through the Spirit of God! This seems to have been a lesson in humility for Peter which kept him humble before God all the remainder of his life.
When we fall, we are not to give up; rather we are to get back up, dust ourselves off, learn the appropriate lesson: and KEEP on KEEPING ON, in zeal for our Mighty God!
Knowing that as long as we are zealously TRYING, even though occasional mistakes are made: God will lift us up by his Mighty Hand and Deliver us from all our weaknesses! When we stumble, let us learn that only the Word, Wisdom and Strength of our God can deliver us, and let us run to God our Father for his deliverance!
18:26 One of the servants of the high priest, being his kinsman whose ear Peter cut off, saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him? 18:27 Peter then denied again: and immediately the cock crew.
Christ was then led to Pilate’s judgment seat. Some of these folks were preparing to eat the Passover late on Passover day, as the Passover was eaten any time on Passover day during the Temple period, due to the time needed to slaughter the great masses of lambs.
They were all preparing for the High Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread and would not enter the hall of Pilate lest they be rendered unclean!
The Passover was only to be eaten by the physically CLEAN and UNDEFILED! Even so the New Covenant Passover is ONLY to be taken by the sincerely repentant, who have been covered by the blood of the Lamb of God and are spiritually CLEAN and UNDEFILED by any sin.
NO! NO! NO! Jesus Christ will not apply his sacrifice to continued and unrepented sin! To partake of his Passover sacrifice we MUST REPENT and commit ourselves; to go and sin NOT MORE!
Anyone who is lax and tolerant of sin; who compromises with the Word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ; no matter how much emotional “love” he claims to have: IS NOT WORTHY to take the New Covenant Passover and will NOT be accepted by Jesus Christ.
ONLY the faithful diligent to live by every Word of God and are sincerely repentant, will have the sacrifice of Christ applied to them.
Those FALSE TEACHERS who say that Christ will not mind if we compromise with God’s Word, are leading us to damnation!
18:28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
Pilate then went outside to hear their accusations and they did not accuse Christ of anything specific, only saying that he was a malefactor.
18:29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? 18:30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.
Pilate then told them to judge Jesus [Yeshua] by the laws of the Jews
Now the law requires stoning for blasphemy, which is the accusation against Jesus. Yet the leaders of the religious establishment wanted Christ to be crucified, which was foretold by the prophets; and that was strictly a Roman punishment.
18:31 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death [by crucifixion]: 18:32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.
Pilate then interrogates Christ
18:33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews? 18:34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
Pilate answers that he does not know about the religion of the Jews
18:35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
Jesus says that the Kingdom of God is not yet
18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Jesus declares that he has come to speak the truth and that he will be King at the appointed time.
Today most have no love for, nor interest in, the truth; if they did they would prove out all things by the Word of God and welcome the truth that is being given to them with thanksgiving and rejoicing.
18:37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Since Jesus said that he had no interest in being a king at that time and declared that because of that his servants would not fight; Pilate judged that Christ was not guilty of insurrection and not worthy of crucifixion.
18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out [outside of the courtroom] again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.
Pilate asks them to bid him release Jesus according to the Passover custom; and these religious leaders of the Church of that day, rejected Christ, and called for the release of Barabbas; demonstrating that by the sacrifice of Christ many would be released from bondage..
18:39 But ye have a custom, that I should release unto you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release unto you the King of the Jews? 18:40 Then cried they all again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
Pilate gave in to the mob after declaring Jesus innocent; and illegally scourged Christ and sent him to be crucified.
John 19:1 Then Pilate therefore took Jesus, and scourged him. 19:2 And the soldiers platted a crown of thorns, and put it on his head, and they put on him a purple robe, 19:3 And said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.
19:4 Pilate therefore went forth again [The priests would not enter the court house because they did not want to contract any physical uncleanness before the coming High Day of ULB.] and saith unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.
Pilate gives Yeshua [Jesus the Christ] to the mob
19:5 Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, Behold the man! 19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
The church elders of that day; proclaimed that Jesus ought to die because he transgressed their unscriptural traditions; yet they demanded that he die by a Roman method.
19:7 The Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
Pilate being a Roman was superstitious about the many gods of Rome and when he heard that Jesus claimed to be a God, by saying he was the son of God; Pilate became fearful and went back to question Jesus again.
19:8 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid; 19:9 And went again into the judgment hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
Jesus said that all power is in the hands of God the Father and that Pilate’s power could be easily broken by God, if the Father did not will his death.
The Father allows Satan to rule this world and exalt whoever Satan wills; within the limits set by God! God is the ultimate authority over even Satan!
Brethren, the present situation was allowed by God the Father, so that we may all learn the lessons that are needed to overcome and enter eternal life. Today he major corporate church of God groups are standing on their false traditions and rejecting the Word of God, having been deceived into man worship; yet they are getting a serious warning that they will remember, and in the tribulation they will remember that warning and repent!
Those who do turn to the Word of God NOW; will be spared the tribulation; however they tend to be more independent minded persons and they will be forced together and will have to learn to COOPERATE with one another and WORK TOGETHER “In the Lord”!
God is teaching each one of us the lessons that we need to learn; and when he is finished; He will bring all of his chosen together; at the Wedding Feast in heaven!
Brethren, the Master Builder, acting on instructions from God the Father, is building a spiritual Temple; a government to rule the whole earth [and ultimately the universe] and REPLACE Satan’s government! Satan is fighting that, tooth and claw, and the present discord among brethren is from Satan, allowed by God to teach us so very many things.
When we feel abused or are offended we need to understand that this is a spiritual battle and that many are being deceived and acting under false spiritual influences, while thinking they are serving God.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
John 19:10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
Pilate is impressed and seeks to save Jesus, but is forced by the mob
19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
The Jews then brought politics into the equation and accused Pilate of being against his emperor.
19:12 And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend: whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Caesar. 19:13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus forth, and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.
19:14 And it was the preparation of the passover [the Passover day was the preparation day for the Feast of Unleavened Bread], and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! 19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar. 19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
Jesus bore his stake for a time but fell under it and another was compelled to help
19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: 19:18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. 19:20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin.
Pilate wrote that Jesus WAS the King of the Jews and refused to take that title down; showing that he had more respect for Christ then for all the religious leaders of the Jews.
19:21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. 19:22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written.
Christ’s clothing was divided among the soldiers presiding over the crucifixion, but his coat they cast lots for fulfilling Psalm 22.
19:23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. 19:24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. (Psalm 22)
Jesus makes provision for his family
19:25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. 19:26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple [John] standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! 19:27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.
19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 19:29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.
19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
The Jews were urgent that the three bodies be buried on that preparation day before the first High Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread; that preparation day being the Passover; and asked Pilate to take steps to speed the dying process.
19:31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
19:32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.
Jesus being already dead they speared him. Now blood and water came forth; the blood bearing record that his death was in sacrifice for humanity and covers the sins of the sincerely repentant with the blood of the Lamb of God, as in Egypt the blood of the Passover lamb was placed on the door posts that Israel might be delivered from the destroyer.
The water coming forth; bares record that Jesus Christ through his teachings and sacrifice coupled with our repentance and diligent faithful obedience: is the source of the Living Waters of eternal life! (John 4 and John 7).
19:33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: 19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
John witnessed this personally and his record is true
19:35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe. 19:36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken. 19:37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
When Christ comes there shall be a great repenting; and humanity shall accept and welcome him with great repentance. This is speaking generally of humanity: Those who actually did the piercing will see him on the day of their own resurrection.
Psalm 34:19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all. 34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
Zechariah 4:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
Joseph (Mark 15:43) and Nicodemus apparently being men of repute in Jerusalem had some influence and were given the body; then along with certain other disciples, they placed the body of Jesus in a new tomb.
John 19:38 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.
19:39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. 19:40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.
19:41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid.
They placed the body in the tomb because it was close by and they needed to hurry and complete the burial before sunset ending Passover and beginning the High Day of Unleavened Bread.
This fact alone should make it clear that since Jesus [our Passover Lamb] died on Passover, and was buried BEFORE the High Day; that the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened bread are two different days! Jesus was killed and buried BEFORE the end of the Passover day as sunset approached; remember that he was to be in the grave for three full nights and three full days and was resurrected after sunset beginning Sunday as the Wave Sheaf was cut from the earth!
19:42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of [it was] the Jews’ preparation day [for the High Day of Unleavened Bread]; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
Early Sunday morning before sunrise, Mary Magdalene visits the Tomb. Jesus had died about 3 pm on Wednesday and was placed in the tomb shortly afterwards. It would have been necessary to place him in the tomb by about 5 pm or so; so that they could return home and wash for the annual Holy Day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread which began at sunset that Wednesday evening, sunset being near seven PM in Jerusalem at that time of year.
That Wednesday Passover was a preparation day for the High Holy Day which was a Thursday; then on Friday they bought spices and prepared for the weekly Sabbath, of Saturday.
Mary rising very early went to visit the tomb very early Sunday morning in preparation to wrap the body in the spices with the other women who were also coming soon.
John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.
Mary finding Jesus already gone, runs to tell John and Peter
20:2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.
The two men ran to the tomb; John leading the way
20:3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. 20:4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple [John] did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. 20:5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in [John did NOT immediately go inside the tomb] .
Peter went inside and then John followed him
20:6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, 20:7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. 20:8 Then went in also that other disciple [John], which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
Then they believed Mary’s report that the body had been moved, still not understanding about the resurrection
20:9 For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.
The two men returned to the place where they were staying in Jerusalem
20:10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.
Mary remained in the garden weeping, and saw two angels who gave her the good news
20:11 But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, 20:12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. 20:13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my LORD, and I know not where they have laid him.
Then Jesus appears to her, and at first she does not recognize him until he speaks her name
20:14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus. 20:15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. 20:16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.
She instantly recognizes him when he speaks her name and was about to rush to embrace him when he warns her off. Jesus says that he has not yet ascended to God the Father [to be accepted as our Wave Offering] and that she should not touch him.
These things are explained in detail in our “The Biblical Spring Festivals” book.
Later on the same day, Jesus encourages his disciples to touch him; indicating that he had ascended to God the Father as our Wave Offering to be accepted for us at the time of the Wave Offering which was lifted up after the Morning Daily Sacrifice.
The Wave Offering is another appointed time which we are commanded to observe, besides the Passover and the New Moons. We are to assemble together and worship God on these Special Days.
If we assembled to learn of these things on the days that God has commanded, God would bless us with much understanding.
20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.
20:18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the LORD, and that he had spoken these things unto her. 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 20:20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side.
Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the LORD
The Holy Spirit was given to 10 disciples [Thomas being absent; or perhaps Thomas received the spirit in absence?] that afternoon, on the first Sunday after Passover.
Yet, they still had to wait until Pentecost for the public manifestation of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on all of the disciples, as a foreshadow of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit at the coming of Christ and the establishment of the New Covenant Kingdom of God; now coming in the very near future (Joel 2:28). That event at Pentecost provided a tremendous opportunity for the disciples to explain and teach about the Messiah and Jesus Christ.
20:21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:
Jesus then gave them power to forgive sin. What does that mean? It means that by calling men to repentance from sin and preaching the Gospel of warning, repentance, those who repent will have their sins forgiven!
20:23 Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained.
Thomas doubts the reports of the resurrected Christ; not having been at the meeting
20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the LORD. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
Thomas believes eight days later and proclaims Yeshua [Jesus} LORD [YHVH] and God; with God the Father!
20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God.
Jesus says that, blessed are those who shall believe their witness and reports, without having seen the events.
20:29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
John explains why he wrote his gospel witness
20:30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
John 21:1 After these things Jesus shewed himself again to the disciples at the sea of Tiberias [Galilee]; and on this wise shewed he himself.
21:2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples. 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.
21:4 But when the morning was now come, Jesus stood on the shore: but the disciples knew not that it was Jesus.
Jesus asks “Catch Anything?” And then tells them where to fish; using that as an example that they will bring many into the family of God by their diligent preaching of the Gospel message of warning, repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ!
21:5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat? They answered him, No. 21:6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.
In the 1611 period of the KJV translation; the word “naked” referred even to being in one’s underwear or swimming gear; that is, it was used for anyone not fully clothed.
21:7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher’s coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea. 21:8 And the other disciples came in a little ship; (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.
This was to be a major lesson for Peter that God brings the increase, not the efforts of men; on their own without God
21:9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread. 21:10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught. 21:11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, an hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.
21:12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord. 21:13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.
21:14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to [most of the disciples gathered together] his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.
Jesus brings a lesson home to Peter; because Peter had denied him three times Jesus asks Peter three times if Peter loves Christ. In doing this Jesus is making a profound point and filling Peter with courage and faith that he would never let Christ down again.
21:15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these [the other disciples]? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
21:16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
Because Peter had denied him three times, Jesus asks Peter for a confirmation of loyalty three times; and commands Peter to feed the flock with the Word of God: which is the nature of God the Father and Jesus Christ.
21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
21:18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdest thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.
We are to be followers of God the Father and Jesus Christ; and we are to follow men ONLY as they follow Christ
21:19 This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.
21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple [John] whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?
Peter asks what John is to do and Jesus replies in so many words: “You must worry about what you were called to do; it is none of your business what others are called to do; it is God’s business and not yours”.
21:21 Peter seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do? 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
21:23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? 21:24 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.
21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
